OK this is really strange now. Kernel 4.4.0-16 does boot now.
I did some troubleshooting after i opened this bug. I edited
/etc/default/grub to disable splash + quiet mode, disabled recovery
mode, increased the waittime before the default grub entry gets active
and played with some "root=..."
So the change of cache mode for the VESA frambuffer driver is at least
not the only offender. It might even have no impact at all but I would
not be 100% sure, yet. Normally this sounds like something that needs a
bisect (building various kernels at stages between 3.16.0-37 and 38
which you would
dmesg of failed startup with 4.4.0-17

I have a fresh installation of the 16.04 daily built from yesterday.
I have had freezes on 4.4rc1 and 4.4 release.
If I am correct I also had it on
The exact same thing happens to me when plugging in my OnePlus One phone
into the computer. I'm on Arch Linux x64. I've got both VMWare and
Virtualbox installed on the computer.

keyboard again (long press of the connect button) in your video. If that
