I have the same issue on my ES1-331 with Ubuntu 16.04.1. Both fancontrol
and the thermal driver (/sys/class/thermal/cooling_device0/max_state)
don't work. I need to reboot to get the fan works when it is overheat.

I recently attempted to dual-boot Ubuntu 16.04 (from a live USB) and
Windows 10. I say "attempted" because Windows 10 did not survive the
process of resizing. The Ubuntu is fine.
