disabling LID0 ACPI signal seems to do the trick for me. the downside is
that laptop won't wakeup by itself anymore (you'll have to press the

Sorry for the delay I was on holiday over the past week.
I've tested linux-
image-4.1.0-040100rc6-generic_4.1.0-040100rc6.201610211158_amd64.deb
It gives me the second issue where it get's stuck in the console (with
the blinking cursor in the upper left corner) before booting into
Plymouth.
Yes make sure your kernel is up to date by booting into 4.4 and install
as I had indicated the nvidia driver 370.23.
