concrete sure fire solution to this.
If there's a BIOS option, which can fix it, it should damn well be put
MANDATORY in all BIOS - not an option, locked in. System stability
should not be this unreliable.Especially now
Haven't had a single lockup after update to Kernel 4.15 and setting the
BIOS to typical idle current setting. Have run the PC for few days and
no issues nor any lock up under heavy CPU use.This is a ASUS B350M board
with latest BIOS on Ryzen 1700.

I had an ugly instance of this problem on an EPYC processor. Not sure what it
was related to.
It all started with errors during package upgrades.

touchpad - just the rectangular touch-sensitive surface below the keyboard
(xinput lists it as Synaptics TM3288-011)
trackpoint - the red thingy built into the keyboard + 3 physical buttons below
the keyboard
Not a fix for S0i3, but the latest X1 6th Gen BIOS (1.30) now has a
power option to enable S3 without having to patch.

BUT using dmesg | grep silead it seems that is using the backup firmware
