Confirmed. I think the problem is that "airplane mode" doesn't really exist. It's just the state in which all radios (reported by 'rfkill') are set to soft blocked. Yeah, gnome-shell ideally should be doing better here. Inverting airplane mode is a mistake. It should only be enabling wifi. **
