If you're looking for a workaround, the current default Ubuntu 16.04.5
kernel doesn't have this bug, and doesn't require PPAs.

I built 4.4.0-141.167 with the one-line patch from

OK, false alarm -- 4.4.0-140 is now crashing for me as well. As far as I
know nothing has changed between now and yesterday. Same computer, same
drives, everything. Back to 4.4.0-138 for me.

I experienced the problem 100% of the time on 4.4.0-139. However, unlike
Jan, I just tried 4.4.0-140 and the problem is gone. I will continue
monitoring my system to see if it reappears.

I applied the Intel IMEI update and now I can reach pc6 and pc7 pretty
consistently but never pc8, pc9, or pc10. Does this agree with your
observations? Using a T460s with NVMe and kernel 4.4.0-36-generic #55 on
16.04, no powertop tuning. All combinations of AC/battery and display
on/off were teste
