I have the same problem with an Apple 25'' Thunderbolt display and a
MacBookPro9,2 running ubuntu 14.04.
The display can only be detected during boot.
If I unplug the monitor while it's working ubuntu freezes
If I plug the monitor after the boot process nothing happens.

I was able to boot into the upstream kernel and the problem is not fixed by it.
Also with the new kernel wifi stopped working.
