Sad news: I had the same crash with the 3.19.8 kernel a couple of times now.
The obvious symptom is that the screen turns off and searches for a new signal

Testing with ppa kernel 3.19.8-031908ckt6-generic seems to resolve the issue.

Public bug reported:
This a re-occurrence of bug 1304591.
J. Salisbury asked me to test kernel v3.14 but when I went to
wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMaillineBuilds it was not at all obvious to me
what I should do to build and test. I am not a Unix/Linux/Ubuntu expert.

Public bug reported:
Opened lid to un-suspend and found, what would be called in the windows
world, THE BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH. Had to force power-off. On re-boot
screen was at minimum brightness.

Fernando Miguel,
could you please test the latest kernel in -updates (3.11.0-13.20) and

Yes, this update fixed the error message
I updated to 13.10 today and installed jsalisbury's packages from
comment #72. Neither his 3.11 kernel, nor the 3.8 kernel from 13.04
work for me. They both show the Ubuntu splash screen for a second or
two and then drop me into the console. Ctrl + Alt + F7 just shows a
blinking cursor.
