I was able to make the SSD work with the following steps:
$ vim /etc/default/grub
add "pci=realloc,assign-busses,hpbussize=0x33" at the end of
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT
$ sudo update-grub
$ reboot
