worked.
For future reference to others:
- Access the grub configuration file by typing in a terminal: sudo nano
/etc/default/grub
- Find the line "GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT" and append i8042.nopnp=1 pci=nocrs
- Save the file
