Sadly I can't. I have 2 Thinkpads with this GPU (Core i7 T420, Core i7
W520) and it is built in -- it can't be replaced.
If upstream has dropped it then there is little that can be done
Still happening for me on both 23.10 (which won't detect my GF199 GPU
at all and has no nVidia utils package) and a black screen after the
last kernel update on 22.04.

I had the same issue with 20.04 on a Thinkpad X220.
I managed to resolve it by installing the HWE kernel, adding a dedicated
swap partition on another drive, purging ZRAM, and rebuilding my
`initrd`.
