Been really busy, but I did test the kernel 4.7-rc3 just now after a
fresh install and it didn't work. :/

Since that didn't work I installed this:

rebooted and the Wifi worked again.

Christopher, I tried to do as you asked but I got this error:
dpkg: dependency problems prevent removal of linux-firmware:
linux-image-generic depends on linux-firmware.
linux-signed-image-generic depends on linux-firmware.

I'll gladly help with this, but I don't know how to revert to the old
ubuntu firmeware.
When I tried to do sudo dpkg -r linux-firmware_1.158_all.deb
I got this error:
dpkg: error: you must specify packages by their own names, not by quoting the
names of the files they come in
Type dpkg --help
WiFi is working with 4.7-rc2 so far.
But I'm not sure if it's due to that I installed
http://mirrors.kernel.org/ubuntu/pool/main/l/linux-firmware/linux-
firmware_1.158_all.deb before to get the card to work.
I've added the dmesg | grep ath10k for you as well. The WiFi is working
with this new
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'
I couldn't boot the computer with that kernel at all.

Well since I reported this bug I have found out that the linux-firmware
from http://mirrors.kernel.org/ubuntu/pool/main/l/linux-firmware/linux-
firmware_1.158_all.deb solved my and my sons 5GHz issue.
