[Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3] Cannot boot from live ISO
Re #5:
This bug only happens booting the live ISO itself with more than one hdd
attached to the system. Once a system is installed everything works
correctly and no kernel issues arise.
Would there be docs for ISO respinning with new kernel anywhere on the
wiki or other location?

Change of importance to 'low'.
I feel this bug should be 'high' or better 'critical' and would argue
that the importance should be raised.
Many OEMs and other installers use multi disk setups.
* Many laptops have mSSD plus an SSD.
* Many systems have more than one disk to split partitions.
Re #8:
I can see where your point comes from for 'low' at this time, but I see
many instances of this bug on LP affecting many people.
Just for reference only: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1241589

Ubuntu Gnome - 14.04 dev release - 20131217.
Cannot boot from live ISO with more than one hdd attached to system.
Will drop to 'initramfs' prompt if more than one hdd attached to system.
This bug also affects 13.10 but no release prior to that.

Distribution upgrade was fine. This is purely an issue of getting a full

The ISO of 2013-09-20 that contained the 3.11.0-7 #14 kernel does not

Removed tags as my hardware has the latest BIOS.
A new 3.11.0-8 #15 has landed and I will test as soon as it's runs into
the latest daily ISO.

@Joseph, Tested todays ISO that includes the bug 1223195 fix and the

For complete cover and knowing there was a 'beta' BIOS update 'F7a' for
my board and I have just done that update. Gigagytes inbuilt QFlash is
great - No boot disks or Windows required. ;-)
Tested and get the same issue. The board I have which is a Gigabyte GA-
97a-DS3 Rev: 1.0.
@Joseph, Never had an issue with any dist-upgrade from raring to saucy.
The issue is all centred around booting with the saucy licecd image.
I have subscribed to the bug you mentioned in the comment. I will be
only too happy to test any fix upon release.

I have this issue too. I have had no issues with live iso images up
until saucy.
Booting and after leaving and doing CTRL+D. I get a lovely kernel panic
with the message:
/init: line 352: can't open /root/dev/console: no such file
Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init!
From #39 also Q3.
Doing a dist-upgrade from 13.04 is fine. There are no issuesas I have
seen on the 20 times I have done it.

Fine. Someone please report this bug as specified by the post I
reference above.
We'll see about discussing this type of bug invalidation maybe with the
community council.

This bug is absolutely valid and should not be closed or invalidated as
it affects many and is easily cross referenced to the same isssue in
another distro.
