Public bug reported: Previously had Ubuntu 16.04 installed on this machine, but I installed Xubuntu over it including formatting my partitions. I did not have issues with adjusting the brightness, getting the screen to show, or Xorg crashes prior to the second install (ie the Ubuntu worked fine).
