This did solve the WiFi speed issue.
the Additional Drivers software erroneously reports the device is not
working when backport-iwlwifi-dkms is removed (see screenshot). Should I
open a second bug report for this error in Additional Drivers?

On a fresh install of Ubuntu 20.04, WiFi connection is extremely slow.
For example loading https://ubuntu.com takes 200 seconds on WiFi and 2 seconds
over ethernet.
On the same computer, Windows 10 has no such problems with WiFi.
The chipset of the laptop is an Intel
