Yes there was no problem with my initial 16.04 installation. It did start after one of the kernel updates but I cannot tell you which one. I have just done a kernel update to uname -r : 4.4.0-45-generic with the same result. See attached screenshot of ifconfig and iwconfig. Previous kernel

rtl2832u is still a problem on older kernels. Works fine otb for 3.11 e.g on Ubuntu 13.10 but I am trying to get this module compiled for any kernel that will work on sun4i i.e. armv7 such as 3.10.25 which is good on raspberry pi. The source files for the module are not available on kernel 3.4
