Every 15 minutes or so, the cursor stops reacting to input from the
touchpad or trackpoint. Unfortunately this machine has a clickpad

That is an excellent spot, and I apologise - I had recently updated the
bios using the lenovo updater utility but it doesn't see this version.
So I am now:
