I have this problem too with my WD passport external USB 3 HDD and USB 3
port of my Dell Inspiron 15 (2521)
i.e. the (USB 3) HDD is not recognized when plugged in USB 3 ports
However USB 2 device device work fine on the USB 3 ports. Only USB 3
device are not recognized.

from the many previous posts I was able to decipher the procedure to use:
1) find in the windows driver .inf the hex file to use and convert
2) get and compile and use hex2hcd to convert file to firmware
3) place the file in /lib/firmware/bcrm/BCM43142A0-0a5c-21d7.hcd

As a side note, even after iw reg set FR, I can't see or connect to this wifi
of the big yellow M.
Even though iw list shows that channel 12 and 13 are available.

I have just installed 14.04 daily from 2014-02-16.
It is just the same. Channels 12 and 13 are not availalables.
I have forgotten to mention that my wireless card is not recognised out
of the box by the unbuntu installer. nor once the installation as been
done. Should I open a new bug report

This would not be an issue with crda, as it is an agent triggered to run
by the kernel. The fact your computer does not automatically sense and
adjust the regulatory domain to your locale would be a kernel issue.
