Despite this, would the b43 wifi driver WORKAROUND the issue with the
WiFi crashing/not working so you could make a less painful upstream
test?

using the same identical usb drive i can install

which kind of problem we are tolking about? mousepad, wireless or

Mousepad: i have this problem from 12.04 to 13.04 but I have never
tested in previusly release. i try to download 11.10 or 11.04
wireless: i have the wireless problem in lastest development kernel but
NOT in 13.10
