Just upgraded 13.04 to 13.10 on the Zenbook and ran into what I believe
is this problem.
In case anyone is looking for an easy solution, workaround was to go to
the bios, and under boot, set CSM enabled and the issue disappeared.
No kernel switching was required.

Cool! Now that this is fixed, will it be a part of a kernel update with
simple apt-get dist-upgrade? I assume now that stable 13.10 is out, this
didn't arrive in time for that. I assume the best strategy for a n00b

Hi Joseph,
Thanks for taking the lead on this! I tested your kernel packages, but
unfortunately they didn't solve this for me. The behaviour is slightly
different: instead of booting into a black screen, your packages boot
into a black screen with three white pixels at rather random locations.
There is another bug report regarding the saucy black screen issue:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1237843
Since this bug is marked as affecting saucy and raring, I guess that it
covers two separate issues: The SecureBoot issue that also affects
raring, and the black screen
Still seeing the issue with the latest 3.12 kernel.

I should add that trying the Ubuntu saucy kernel on an existing

I'm in the process of bisecting. The problem has been introduced somewhere

v3.10-rc1 and commit fea0f9f. Looking at the logs, the latter is a likely
