It would be great if the developers from NVIDIA would give this show-stopping bug a high-priority for their first next driver release. This makes it just unbearable to use my Laptop if I would like to use a newer driver, which does posses some quite big performance gains which I would love to take

Not to my knowledge: that changelog entry refers to adding an additional interface via the NV-CONTROL API to the existing backlight functionality. The problem is that the existing backlight functionality is now broken on some laptops, so it doesn't make a difference whether it's exposed through a
