I have to reboot to recovery and the keyboard does work for the text-
based entry of the master crypt passphrase, which then permits the
standard

This bug affects me too. However I don't think it is related to the kernel.
Reason for me to say this:
One of my machines had some strange problems during the upgrade from 14.04 to
14.10. The result was, that I was still on kernel 3.13 after the upgrade. When

kernel and user-space component, the userspace didn't change going from
Trusty to Utopic as per https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ecryptfs-
utils . Hence, this would indicate another actor at work.
