I have a similar problem when upgrading from 3.16.0-25 to 3.16.0-28. I have tried two radeon cards, TURKS?? (Sorry no saved lspci) so ~ HD 6670 Cedar HDMI Audio [Radeon HD 5400/6300 Series] Both have the same issue. Fine with kernels previous to 3.16.0-28. Failure is evident from plymouth still
