I have a similar problem when upgrading from 3.16.0-25 to 3.16.0-28.
I have tried two radeon cards,
TURKS?? (Sorry no saved lspci) so ~ HD 6670
Cedar HDMI Audio [Radeon HD 5400/6300 Series]
Both have the same issue. Fine with kernels previous to 3.16.0-28.
Failure is evident from plymouth still
Maarten Fonville, having no logs of your problem and posting a bug link
is unfortunately not helpful here.
Despite this, which version of the live environment did you try? Have
you tried a different release instead?

Maarten Fonville, forum posts are largely unhelpful. As well, I have a
radeon card and I don't have the problems mentioned here.
Despite this, I booted into the x64 (not 32-bit) daily live environment,
immediately ran apport-collect against one of my bug reports, the
terminal output responded aski

I did try to run apport-collect 1402172 with a stock (non mainline
kernel PPA) kernel, and did check out the wiki on how to resolve the
error by installing the launchpadlib package, but as I said earlier: the
package is (already) installed but I get the very same error nonetheless
:(

Hi, same situation with kernel 3.13.0-43 in Ubuntu 14.04.1, black screen,
cannot switch to tty - version before upgrade works OK.
3.16.0-28 - the bug is still here.
The new version of kernel 3.13.0-43 is being installed automatically during
installation of Ubuntu 14.04 and makes the Ubuntu unusab
