This workaround did not help in my situation. When Ubuntu came up (both
the login screen and the desktop) it was already telling me my network

Hi,
Yes, WiFi was also failing for me. The workaround solves the WiFi

You don't mention if WiFi was also failing for you. It is for me. Does
your workaround solve that as well?

Hi,
I have found a workaround for this bug:
Start the machine from scratch with all the USB devices plugged in.
Wait for the Grub menu to show on the screen.
Using the keyboard select Ubuntu as the operating system to load.

What, please, is the status of this bug? Is there a fix or candidate
fix in any newer version of the kernel?
Since I signed on to this bug in early April, I have been looking for
some resolution to it. For awhile I was checking each new kernel

Connectivity. Keyboard still worked though, but I am using an internal
laptop keyboard rather than USB one. Reverting to 3.13.0-46 "solved"
these problems.

I have Ubuntu installed on my 17'' core-duo intel imac, with an encrypted root
partition.
Version 12.04 with 13.5.0-17-generic worked ok, but I updated to the LTS
version 14.04.
The system now freezes before asking for my encryption password when booting (I
am using EFI with grub2)
