Title:
Asus X302LA, Elantech touchpad dies off after pm-suspend or reprobe of
'psmouse' module
Status in linux
I follow Zesty packages for amd64, and I confirm that the undesired
behavior is no more reproduced starting from 4.8.0-27 and onwards. I
avoid testing mainline builds and I will test 4.9.* only after it is
packaged for Zesty/amd64. Now I am at 4.8.0-30 and the bug had gone away
- most probably
Wladimir Mutel, to advise, theorizing what might be fixed isn't nearly
as helpful as testing the latest Ubuntu kernel for your release, and if
still reproducible the latest mainline kernel (now 4.9).

Wladimir Mutel, to keep this relevant to upstream, one would want check

Could you please advise?

Wladimir Mutel, testing 4.4.0-16 (downstream kernel) doesn't it make it
that you should re-contact upstream.
Instead, you would want to test the latest upstream kernel first (now
4.6-rc2), and advise to the results here.

The bug is still reproducible with 4.4.0-16 kernel package.
Should I raise it on linux-input again ? Am I the only one who is affected ?

Asus X302LA,
0. I just bought my X302LA earlier this month, so I did not test it with
kernels older than 4.2.0-19. I just moved my older system to its HDD and
continued testing Xenial.
1. I updated its BIOS to v.204, so 'bios-outdated-204' tag may be removed now:
DMI: ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. X302LA/X302LA,
With Linux $(hostname) 3.13.0-68-generic #111-Ubuntu SMP Fri Nov 6 18:17:06 UTC
2015 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
the touchpad dies off as well (working before pm-suspend and dead after waking
up). So probably we could not find a 'good' kernel to start bisection, as this
hardware is very new
(note: I booted in UEFI mode from both HDD and USB. not using CSM/legacy
modes)

Also reproduce the same problem with updated Debian 8.2 and kernel

(2015-11-09) x86_64 GNU/Linux

so it is hardly fixed anywhere.

Did this issue start happening after an update/upgrade? Was there a
prior kernel version where you were not having this particular problem?
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
