I think that I had the same problem. I fixed it with:
sudo modprobe -r psmouse
sudo modprobe psmouse proto=imps
sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg-input-synaptics
cd /etc/udev/rules.d
sudo nano touchpad.rules
Paste:
ACTION!="add|change", GOTO="xorg_synaptics_end"
KERNEL!="event*", GOTO="xorg_s
Did this issue start happening after an update/upgrade? Was there a
prior kernel version where you were not having this particular problem?
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v4.15 kernel[
