Hi Joseph,
I've been on 4.15.18 upstream stable for three weeks now, and the
problem seems to be gone. When will the Ubuntu kernel have the fixes
incorporated so that I can I switch back from the upstream stable
kernel?

I switched over to 4.15.18. Will keep an eye on it for the next two

latest upstream stable 4.15 kernel:
