I updated from 4.15.0-30 with nividia-driver-390 to 4.15.0-32 and the system broke. Only trough Grub Recovery mode was I enabled to get in the (root) terminal. First try was the update like Joseph Salisbury wrote. Second try was to add the grpahics PPA and install nividia-driver-396. The last
