What I wanted to add is with the nouveau driver my system did boot (in
800x600). So I suspected something with nvidia and 4.15.0-32. But maybe
I am far wrong here...

I updated from 4.15.0-30 with nividia-driver-390 to 4.15.0-32 and the
system broke. Only trough Grub Recovery mode was I enabled to get in the
(root) terminal.
First try was the update like Joseph Salisbury wrote.
Second try was to add the grpahics PPA and install nividia-driver-396.
The last
You may need to run the following from a terminal:
sudo apt-get install -f
sudo apt-get clean
sudo apt-get update
Then re-install the package or updates.
If that does not resolve your issue, please mark the bug as "Confirmed"
