There's a slight chance these are both kernel bugs, but I think more likely the laptop has some real hardware faults. Please try a newer kernel version: https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v5.5.2/ or maybe easier; please try booting Ubuntu version 18.04 from USB:
