Title:
  Freeze after upgrading 18.04 LTS to 20.04 LTS with NVIDIA's driver.

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  After upgrading 18.04 LTS to 20.04 LTS X started to freeze at the
  login when using NVIDIA's driver 440.82 or 440.100.

  When investigating log files, the following was found in Xorg.0.log:

  "(EE) NVIDIA(GPU-0): Failed to acquire modesetting permission."

  To prevent the freeze, adding kernel command line parameter
  "nvidia_drm.modeset=1" was required.

  Nouveau driver had already been blacklisted, as it has never been stable on
the computer in question.
