Papercuts; the project aimed to improve the user experience in Ubuntu

1) Yes, I though that it was very improbable this bug to be from the
kernel. Perhaps Christopher M. Penalver can clarify why he though it
was.
2) The usb-creator-gtk application wasn't working in Ubuntu 13.04 the
last time I tried to make a live thumb drive, so better
Dave / Alberto, if you find the package is not assigned appropriately,
please reassign to the correct one. :)

I can imagine where the mistake is but I'm unable to tell for sure. So
rather than telling what to do based in suppositions, I've asked for
help from the Ubuntu BugSquad; and if after this what can you do remains
unclear, I will investigate it myself till I can confirm the bug is

1) What makes people think it's a kernel bug? The kernel is detecting the CD
drives in the bootdmesg, and if I read the bug correctly it mounts them if told
to.
2) Does this issue happen in an installed system; i.e. if you install (I think
you could probably install to a thumb
