Sorry its taken me a while to get around to testing this.
I have downloaded live CDs going back to Ubuntu 8.04 testing each as I go, and
8.04 (kernel 2.6.24) suspends correctly.
All my hardware functions in 8.04 as well as getting reasonable frame rates in
glxgears (~665 fps).

I can confirm that if I manually build the saucy deb on this precise
raring HWE, the wireless works fine.
Therefore, I would suggest that the saucy broadcom source package should
be backported to precise so that HWE upgraders dont suffer the same
issues.

As requested the test was re-run in the latest Saucy daily. The results
are attached above. The issue still exists if a mass storage USB device
is connected to the nForce 590 USB controller. If only HID devices are
attached then they all power off correctly at shutdown.

Either I have do something wrong, or the patch doesn't help. My second
try was to copy the unmodified zram driver from 3.8.0-27 to 3.8.0-29.
This seems to work.

Skimming the linux git changes since rc6 (on which the current saucy
kernel is based) show a couple of radeon-related fixes, but nothing that
claims to be relevant to my r6xx card. I don't currently have much hope
that rc7 will fix anything when it lands.

Both -rc4 and -rc2 are substantially worse:
-rc4 freezes hard immediately on boot-up, it never gets past loading
initial ramdisk. Modesetting never kicks in. Sysrq+reisub does nothing,
