Another Laptop here (Samsung Ativ Book 7 - type: 730U3E-X04DE). It's not
on the list of hardware known to brick in UEFI mode. So I installed it
in UEFI mode. Samsung-laptop is not loaded here as well so some minimal
things are not working properly (keyboard illumination, fan-control,
WiFi switch).

Acer Aspire E1-572 doesn't shutdown properly

Same bug as described in Bug #1245904 except that I am using Kubuntu
13.10 instead of Ubuntu.
Screen freezes on shutdown with the kubuntu logo showing. Suspend to
ram, suspend to disk and rebooting works fine.

Using Ubuntu 12.04 on amd64 Asus K53S laptop.
Seen this problem today for the first time after standard kernel update to
version 3.2.0-57-generic on only one out of three USB ports on first reboot
after upgrade.
Plugging any device into that port causes the messages in log described above.

I have stopped experiencing this problem. I just noticed a stable
network interface after updating to linux 3.8.0-34-generic on Ubuntu
13.04 64bit.

Christopher, i havn't this option and acpi_backlight=vendor no effect to this
