[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1318012] Re: 148f:2570 Wireless LAN reported as Hard blocked ONLY in Linux (dual boot system) although device is not deactivated

2014-05-14 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
hank:
Hi Christopher, Downloading version 12.4.0 is not possible because the
respective page automatically redirects to version 12.4.3 (no download
available for 12.4.0).

Yes, it is possible because the fact it says 12.04.3 at the top has
nothing to do with being able to download 12.04.0 from lower on the
page. As you will notice lower on the page it notes the different
versions of 12.04, including 12.04.0.

I will test 12.4.3 and (to be sure) the even older version 11.10

Testing 12.04.3 wouldn't be helpful here as it's the equivalent to
testing Saucy.

Realteck Barossa PCI express SD card no longer works

Status in The Linux Mint Distribution:
  New

Bug description:
  Hello,

First I want to apologize for my bad English because I go through google
translation.
Secondly I am very new and very very novice on Linux , then it will have to
be patient with me :)

I installed Linux Mint 16 cinnamon to replace the aging Windows XP was
installed on the netbook.
I realized that the SD card does not work.

  - After some research I saw that he had realteck download drivers and do some
mods from the kernel 13.10
http://doc.ubuntu-fr.org/lecteur_carte_memoire%20#sous_1310 but does not work
on 13.11 kernel .
  - I continued my research and I came across this post
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1202047 so I set my bios
to version F15 but does have not solved the problem.
  - Xubuntu 14.04 has been out for four weeks , so I tried it on a Live USB ,
the problem is still present

I ran ubuntu-bug linux command in the terminal, you will find the
  report attached .

I hope I have correctly completed this ticket and it will help you to
  understand what is happening.

  Thank you in advance

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1318116] Re: kworker uses 100% CPU when nfs-kernel-server is active

2014-05-14 Thread Gordon
Linux hostname 3.15.0-031500rc5-generic #201405091635 SMP Fri May 9

Don't see the process any more. Looks like the 3.15 kernel fixes it.

kworker uses 100% CPU when nfs-kernel-server is active

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I have a clean install of 14.04 on an i7-860 with 16GB RAM.

I'm using NFS to share a home directory. The volume is ~2TB,
formatted JFS, and it has a single client.

I recently noticed that I had a [kworker] process using 100% CPU:

PID USER PR NIVIRTRESSHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+ COMMAND

   9253 root 20 0 0 0 0 R 99.9 0.0 0:30.17
[kworker/3:1]

  Rebooting didn't help.

After some troubleshooting I found that it went away immediately when
I stopped the nfs-kernel-server daemon. When I start it, it comes
back after a minute or two, still using 99-100% CPU. The load goes
away when the client is turned off and the NFS server is restarted,
but it comes back as soon as it reconnects.

The only line in /etc/exports is:
  /home 192.168.1.0/24(rw,sync,no_root_squash)

Using a Sony Vaio Pro 13 with Ubuntu 14.04 the wifi keeps dropping. Sometimes
all the time, at times after a bit longer (~10 min). A few packages ago it
didn't drop, but was really, really, slow. Now it completely drops. Adding the
following to modprobe.conf made no change:
  options iwlwifi 11ac_disable=1
  options iwlwifi 11n_disable=1

  sudo modprobe -rfv iwlwifi
  sudo modprobe -v iwlwifi

Tried turning off the power management of wlan0 without any change.

2014-05-14 Thread Keyvan Mir Mohammad Sadeghi
Christopher,

I updated my bios as you suggested. Tried to attach new info, but apport
complains about using a mainstream kernel. Shall I revert back to the
ubuntu kernel? The issue still holds, there is no mac address other than
D-Link's.

BTW, I noticed the below error while booting:
i8042 controller not found

A Google search tells me this is about keyboard and mouse, might it be
the WiFi in my case?

Cheers

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1305522] Re: Backport Synaptics HID touchpad driver for 14.04

2014-05-14 Thread mrmagos
Testing on a Dell XPS 12-9q33. Tested both kernels in #24 and #28, and
touchscreen worked as expected for both. However, I no longer have two-
finger scrolling or tap-to-click with the touchpad with the kernel in
#24; expected since a change was reverted. For kernel in #28, mouse
button events using the touchpad caused a kernel panic.

Title:
[Dell XPS 15 9530] Wakes from sleep after exactly 24 hours + 3-5
  seconds

Status in Dell Sputnik:
  New
Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
Symptoms: The system will wake itself from sleep after very nearly exactly 24
hours, + / - 10 seconds or so. /var/log/pm-suspend.log will show this:
Sat May 10 22:08:49 MDT 2014: performing suspend
  Sun May 11 22:08:54 MDT 2014: Awake.

In this case the system has resumed after 24 hours and 5 seconds with
no user request to do so. Steps to reproduce: Suspend machine by
closing lid. The system can be plugged in to charge while it is
suspended, and then subsequently unplugged, but the suspend occurs on
battery power, and when the resume occurs the system is also not
plugged in. I have not tested other permutations. No other action is
necessary. The system will randomly resume 24 hours + 3-5 seconds
  later.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1318477] Re: [Dell XPS 15 9530] Wakes from sleep after exactly 24 hours + 3-5 seconds

2014-05-14 Thread Dan Poler
Q: Has this system ever had any prior Ubuntu releases installed on it, or is
Trusty the first?
A: This system has had Saucy installed on it but the installation to Trusty was
fresh (drives wiped). The behavior described did not occur under Saucy

Q: Can you also see if this issue happens while the system is connected to AC
power for 24 hours?
A: I have tested this with the system connected to AC and it does occur.

Q: There are a couple of initial triaging steps we can perform. One
would be to test the latest mainline kernel to see if this bug is
already fixed upstream. If it is not, we should also find out if this is
a regression. If it is a regression, we can bisect to find the commit
that introduced this.

So in addition to testing this bug with AC power, can you also test the latest
mainline kernel, which can be downloaded from:
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.15-rc5-utopic/

Just let me know if you have any issues or questions installing that
kernel.

A: Haven't done this but will over the weekend. I see the note regarding
the outdated bios and will also test that (upstream kernel first, see if
it recurs; upstream and stock kernel using new bios as well).

Q: Can you review your BIOS settings to see if there is an automatic
wakeup set there?

A: There is not.

Q: Also, is the system waking up 24 hours from the time it is suspended,
or does it wakeup at the same time of day? Just trying to see if an
external USB device is waking it at a specific time.

A: The system will wake up 24 hours from the time suspended regardless
of time of day.

Q: One last thing, the Firmware Test Suite can dump some CMOS data to
see if wakeup is set. If possible, can you install fwts and run the
following:

sudo fwts cmosdump

Then attach the output.

A: Done and attached

No other action is
necessary. The system will randomly resume 24 hours + 3-5 seconds
  later.

Bug description:
This regression occurs somewhere between 3.11.0-14-generic (latest on
saucy) and 3.13.0-031300rc6-generic (a test kernel). On the earlier
kernel, I actually get settings for setting up my touchpad in the
unity interface. With the updated kernel, those options disappear. I
only get one set of options both my mouse and my touchpad instead of
each one independently. It means that I can't set the pointer speed
differently or turn on natural scrolling for my touchpad.

WORKAROUND: Execute at a terminal and then reboot your system:
  echo blacklist i2c_hid | sudo tee -a /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf

  Release Notes Text
Bug:1265885 On some Dell XPS13 systems the Synaptics touchpad is incorrectly
recognised as a mouse. See the bug for possible workarounds.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1318116] Re: kworker uses 100% CPU when nfs-kernel-server is active

2014-05-14 Thread Gordon
** Description changed:

I have a clean install of 14.04 on an i7-860 with 16GB RAM.

I'm using NFS to share a home directory. The volume is ~2TB, formatted
JFS, and it has a single client.

I recently noticed that I had a [kworker] process using 100% CPU:

- PID USER PR NIVIRTRESSHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+ COMMAND

- 9253 root 20 0 0 0 0 R 99.9 0.0 0:30.17
[kworker/3:1]
+   PID USER PR NIVIRTRESSHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+ COMMAND
+  9253 root 20 0 0 0 0 R 99.9 0.0 0:30.17
[kworker/3:1]

  Rebooting didn't help.

After some troubleshooting I found that it went away immediately when I
stopped the nfs-kernel-server daemon. When I start it, it comes back
after a minute or two, still using 99-100% CPU. The load goes away when
the client is turned off and the NFS server is restarted, but it comes
back as soon as it reconnects.

Title:
  Ubuntu 13.10 netboot code freezes

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
  Hi,

I have installed the Ubuntu 13.10 netboot code on my pxe server and
just tested it. It worked correctly to install ubuntu on an old, intel
  based notebook.

But on my Foxconn NT-A3500 Mini-PC (AMD E350 CPU) it freezes
immediately after showing the first selection menu (which language to
use for installation), i.e. keyboard does not work anymore, not even
ctrl-alt-del. Needs poweroff to reboot. The problem occurs both with
  the 386 and amd64 code.

I have also installed the old 12.04 netboot, which works properly on
that device. BTW, the device ran 12.04 for a long time properly, and
even 13.10 works if booted from a USB pendrive. The PC properly runs
  Ubuntu, both 12.04 and 13.10.

So something's wrong with the 13.10 netboot code.

  regards

2014-05-14 Thread Adam Lee
@Peter, could you please try this very kernel with the firmware I gave
you and feedback?

http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.15-rc5-utopic/

If it works, please boot the -proposed 3.13.0-26 kernel then check
again. Thanks.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1189721] Re: Ralink RT3290 needs bluetooth driver

2014-05-14 Thread Orhideous
I just made some research.
First, I download and compiled in kernel module new drivers with some debug
info — https://github.com/vhallac/rtbth/
Then, when I tried create pair with another BT device (phone, for example), I
got some debug information in syslog:

===
hci0: Cancel Pair Device (0x001a) failed: Invalid Parameters (0x0d)
===

May be useful:

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1319366] Re: 1286:2044 [Microsoft Surface Pro 2] Marvell 88W8797 not working in 14.04 kernel 3.13.0-24-generic

2014-05-14 Thread Keyvan Mir Mohammad Sadeghi
apport information

** Description changed:

Marvell WiFi on Surface Pro 2 does not work in a fresh install of 14.04 with
3.13.0-24 kernel. I had the same issue in 12.04, but others reported that this
was resolved in Raring
http://askubuntu.com/questions/257600/marvells-wireless-driver-not-recognized/262010
. The drivers mentioned in the post are already in place:
  $ modinfo mwifiex_usb
  filename:
/lib/modules/3.13.0-24-generic/kernel/drivers/net/wireless/mwifiex/mwifiex_usb.ko
  firmware: mrvl/usb8797_uapsta.bin

And system surely recognises the Marvell WiFi:
  $ lsusb
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 8087:8000 Intel Corp.
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub

Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub

But when creating a new WiFi connection using network manager, the only
mac address it sees is that of my external D-Link receiver.

But when creating a new WiFi connection using network manager, the

But when creating a new WiFi connection using network manager, the

Title:
1286:2044 [Microsoft Surface Pro 2] Marvell 88W8797 not working in
  14.04 kernel 3.13.0-24-generic

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
Marvell WiFi on Surface Pro 2 does not work in a fresh install of 14.04 with
3.13.0-24 kernel. I had the same issue in 12.04, but others reported that this
was resolved in Raring
http://askubuntu.com/questions/257600/marvells-wireless-driver-not-recognized/262010
. The drivers mentioned in the post are already in place:
  $ modinfo mwifiex_usb
