I have this same issue after upgrading from 12.04 to 14.04,
3.13.0-27-generic, 32-Bit. I have a Dell Precision M6500. Fan cycles
on for about 6 seconds (gradually slowing in speed), then stops for just
less than a second, then back on again. Repeats endlessly.

VM's require UEFI to boot, inform the UEFI boot manager of the OS (via
registration of values in the NVRAM). The Ubuntu installer does this at

to suspend my laptop, 90% of the time it re-wakes within 2 seconds,

Title:
[Asus K8N4-E] Log Out doesn't work using Control
The workaround no longer works since the tpm_tis module fails to load in
kernels 3.13 and newer. This means that the only way to make 14.04
Trusty to work is to apply the workaround listed here and downgrade the
kernel to 3.12.

You have been subscribed to a public bug:
Every time I tried to install this new it was hanging during the install
or even before during boot. This system is a pre-installed windows 8
(64bits).
In the file /var/log/dmesg I can see the following:
[ 28.119124] BUG: soft lockup - CPU#0 stuck for
Andre, could you please confirm this issue exists with the latest
development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ . If the issue remains,
please just make a comment to this.
