Pilot6,
After reboot I have emulation mode again - so I run modprobes again.
It turned out that after I enter these two commands, touchpad starts to
work, but all gnome defined hotkeys break (including fn keys, such as
brightness, and event terminal).

Artem,
Fn keys have nothing to do with the driver. On my laptop they work. The
problem must be somwhere else.
No, you do not need to restart psmouse any more, ever after updating kernel.
You need to do it only first time after install.
And as mentioned above, I will try to fix this small issue.
Typo in previous message
sudo modprobe -r psmouse
sudo modprobe psmouse

I just tested it again with latest vivid 3.16.0-13 kernel.
It works after
sudo pmdprobe -r psmouse
sudo modprobe psmouse
or reboot.

Pilot6,
Sorry, I missed this!
Seems like it works:

touchpad while typing.
However, now I meet another problem - fn key "enable touchpad" does not

Artem,
Did you restart psmouse, according to the directions in ppa?
"emulation mode" means that 'native' 3.19 kernel module is used.
And did the package install correctly without errors?

There is a new twist to this: The effect can be remedied by using a
shorter USB extension cable. So it is obvious that the crashes result
from bad communication or bad reaction of the device due to insufficent
power.
Question is: Is a misbehaveing USB device like something like bad
hardware, that
Also, I don't think it is related to the machines BIOS. If you like, I
can try to trigger the bug by using the WLAN device on some completely
