I am having two machines, both upgraded from 15.10 to 16.04
The one running under vmware is doing fine, but the other running on

I now realize I didn't get rid of linux-image-4.7.0-040700rc2-generic as
in the linked bug I said I would stick to this upstream kernel for
further testing and to answer your questions. Should I revert to the
latest stable kernel? Could this explain why I get 2 GiB RAM instead of
my regular 4?

Accepted linux-firmware into xenial-proposed. The package will build now
and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-
firmware/1.157.1 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

On an up-to-date 14.04.x, I started do-release-upgrade -d to upgrade to
ubuntu 16.04.
At about 50% of the installation of packages, do-release-upgrade stucks
in the following manner:
- cpu runs at 0%~ and there is no disk I/O for about 15 minutes now
- do-release-upgrade
This bug was fixed in the package linux - 4.4.0-25.44

I have the same problem. Currently I'm using Ubuntu 14.04 64bits. I
have 4GB of RAM and no swap. If I open too many apps and memory usage
goes to 100%, the system completely freezes.
Before 14.04, I was using 8.04 32bits and this problem never happend. If
all the memory was used, new apps
