  ubuntu doesn't recognise keyboard - works fine in BIOS, stops on OS
  load

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
  My Corsair K-50 stopped working on the 27th June, had been working
  perfectly fine for the last few months. I plugged it into another
  machine on ubuntu that has been recently updated which leads me to
  believe this is a bug.

  Furthermore the keyboard works fine in BIOS, setup and even in the
  Advanced settings - I can select recovery mode, but as soon as that
  finishes the keyboard stops working.

  I have also plugged it into a Windows machine and the keyboard works
  fine.

  Not sure if these files will help but here's what I have found:

  http://pastebin.com/uzSCh8bM - this is a log from the previous boot on
  the 25th June, on line 1185 the keyboard is registered and detected as
  the correct make and model.

  http://pastebin.com/NJEZ8YYt - this is a log from the day it stopped
  working and there is no trace of "Corsair" , instead at roughly the
  same time I find the lines on line (1133):

  Jun 27 02:53:15 jared-MS-7930 kernel: [1.153217] usbhid 1-2:1.0: can't

  Jun 27 02:53:15 jared-MS-7930 kernel: [1.153221] usbhid: probe of 1-2:1.0
failed with error -22

  This error crops up a number of times but I can find little reference
  to it on the web.

  Here is an up to date log of me removing my mouse (which works) and plugging
the keyboard into the same port:

  I've checked the Software Centre History and hadn't updated since the 24th
the only packages being:
  google-chrome-stable (43.0.2357.125-1, 43.0.2357.130-1)
  flashplugin-installer (11.2.202.466ubuntu0.15.04.1,
11.2.202.468ubuntu0.15.04.1)

  I understand that this is difficult to reproduce because you require
  the specific keyboard but I'm willing to dig and investigate if
  needed.

Title:
  Hardware-specific: Fan is running at full speed on resume

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
  This bug is related to Asus 1025C laptop.
  Steps to reproduce:

  1) Boot into Ubuntu
  2) run pm-suspend
  3) Wake up the laptop

  After a few seconds the CPU fan spins up to max speed and it doesn't slow
down until reboot/poweroff.
  Hibernation can also fix this, so, fan runs at normal speed.
  It is not a PWM fan, so, I guess, I can't control it via /sys.

  Output of "sensors" before suspend:
  acpitz-virtual-0
  Adapter: Virtual device
  temp1:+55.0°C  (crit = +255.0°C)

  after:
  acpitz-virtual-0
  Adapter: Virtual device
  temp1:+0.0°C  (crit = +255.0°C)

  I've had a Linux Mint 17 before Ubuntu 15.10. No issues were in Mint. Before
Mint, I've used a Kubuntu 14.04, 14.10, no issues either.
  I've tried to compile old versions of linux kernel (from the official git
repo) and I noticed, that 3.16 kernel was the latest, where fan works properly.
3.17-rc1 breaks it.

  According to git commit history, 3.17 kernel have many commits related
  to ACPI/PM fixes.

  My guess is that kernel doesn't restore thermal sensor device from
  sleep properly since 3.17.

Title:
  kernel 4.4.0-22-generic in 16.04 sees no disks on HP Proliant DL165 G7
  if IOMMU is enabled

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
  On a HP Proliant DL165 G7 I upgraded from 14.04.3 LTS to 16.04 LTS (I
  know, not supported).

  After reboot, the new kernel was loaded by GRUB, but failed to find
  the disks installed in the system (setup working for almost 2 years,
  standard HP setup with the SATA controller in AHCI mode and AHCI
  enabled during BIOS). It then dropped to a shell in initramfs, after
  hundreds (thousands?) of identical errors:

  [...] AMD-Vi: Event Logged [IO_PAGE_FAULT] device=xxx adress=yyy
  flags=0x...

  and the final error messages:

  ata3: softreset failed (1st FIS failed)
  ata4: softreset failed (1st FIS failed)
  ata3: limiting SATA link speed to 1.5 Gbps
  ata3: softreset failed (1st FIS failed)
  ata4: limiting SATA link speed to 1.5 Gbps
  ata4: softreset failed (1st FIS failed)
  ata3: reset failed, giving up
  ata4: reset failed, giving up

  The system disks are on ata1 and ata2, though.

  I tried booting the system from different other 16.04 boot media
(ubuntu-16.04-server-amd64.iso, ubuntu-16.04-desktop-amd64.iso) into a rescue
system. I also got the
  [...] AMD-Vi: Event Logged ... messages. When the rescue shell was running,
the system disks were also not detected, the installer I started as an
experiment only offered the (USB disk) boot medium itself as installation
target. The desktop installer and kernel then crashed with error messages about
squashfs (sorry, didn't record those).

  Without any change, the same system boots without issues from a 14.04
  boot image, all disks present. Also, the 16.04 system boots fine if
  the old 3.13.0-86 kernel is selected in the GRUB menu.

  After some fiddling around, I turned off the IOMMU in the server's
  BIOS (under PCiExpress) - and all went back to normal, without any
  change on the installed system. Kernel 4.4.0-22-generic now boots just
  fine from the LVM-Root.

  So this is WORKSFORME now, but maybe somebody should look into it. I do
believe that Proliants are quite common out there. If needed, I'll provide more
info if possible - but currently I wouldn't know what.

Title:
  Random file corruption when writing large files to hba mounted volume

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
  We have an Ubuntu 16.04 LTS server with a 3Par volume via QLogic HBA.
  When mounted, writing large files to it repeatedly produces the
  following errors:

  [435753.554230] sd 5:0:0:1: [sde] tag#10 FAILED Result: hostbyte=DID_OK
driverbyte=DRIVER_SENSE
  [435753.554232] sd 5:0:0:1: [sde] tag#10 Sense Key : Illegal Request [current]

  [435753.554236] blk_update_request: critical target error, dev sde, sector
75497463

  We see similar errors with XFS and EXT4. ZFS seems to work fine
  though.  Here's how to recreate:

  // create a large file
  $ sudo dd if=/dev/urandom of=/random_file.bin bs=1048576 count=800

  // 3Par volume is /dev/sde
  $ sudo mkfs.xfs /dev/sde

  // mount to /test
  $ sudo mount /dev/sde /test

  // watch syslog
  $ tail -f /var/log/syslog &

  $ sudo cp /random_file.bin /test

  WORKAROUND: sudo sh -c 'echo 16384 >
  /sys/block/sde/queue/max_sectors_kb'

  We made this permanent by adding a udev rule:
  $ cat /etc/udev/rules.d/61-block-max-sectors.rules
  ACTION=="add|change", KERNEL=="sd[a-z]", SUBSYSTEM=="block",
DRIVERS=="qla2xxx", RUN+="/bin/sh -c '/bin/echo 16384 >
/sys/block/%k/queue/max_sectors_kb'"

  steady decrease in available memory (RAM) under 16.04

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  I've just upgraded to 16.04 from 15.10, and now the memory usage
  steadily increases from when I first boot up. After just an hour or
  two, all 20GB of RAM is used up, even if nothing is running, and I am
  forced to reboot (rebooting frequently is incompatible with my normal
  tasks).

  Here is output from free, spaced about half a second apart:

  [0753][me@-t450s:~]$ free  -m

available
  Mem:  19958100158087147   13148

11644
  Swap: 20358   0   20358

  htop shows that 8GB is in use, although there are no applications
  using much. I understand from free that it is all buffered/cached?

  Both htop and free suggest that the memory is really not available.
  I do not know where it is going.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1579374] Re: amdgpu causes NULL pointer dereference when trying to use Topaz (Radeon R7 M265) GPU

2016-08-06 Thread Yuri Ribeiro Sucupira
As I reported here:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-
amdgpu/+bug/1608042/comments/31

...my computer is exactly the same (Dell Inspiron 5448 laptop, BIOS A06,
hybrid graphics Intel Broadwell - module i915 + AMD Topaz XT R7
M260/M265 - module amdgpu) and after installing 64-bit XUbuntu 16.04
"Xenial" I got the same problem, because of the kernel 4.4.

I got rid of the kernel-AMD GPU issues after doing some reverse commit
and identifying that kernel 4.6-rc1 received a "good commit" that fixed
the problem.

I'm currently running 4.6-rc7, but I can confirm that from 4.6-rc1 ahead
the "NULL pointer dereference" bug's gone. From kernel 4.6-rc1 or newer
I'm able to execute "DRI_PRIME=1 glxgears" without experiencing any
issues.

Title:
  amdgpu causes NULL pointer dereference when trying to use Topaz
  (Radeon R7 M265) GPU

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  A Dell Inspiron 5448 / 0YDTG3 laptop (BIOS A06 10/12/2015), which used
  to work well with Ubuntu trusty and Ubuntu wily releases (using fglrx
  driver), presents multiple issues with Ubuntu xenial.

  When the amdgpu driver tries to activate the Radeon GPU, a NULL
  pointer dereference occurs, causing the caller process to hang. This
  practically causes the system to hang when trying a logoff or
  shutdown.

  The bug can be easily reproduced by calling:

  DRI_PRIME=1 glxgears

  Which hangs the glxgears process and causes the stacktrace attached
  below.

  The system also crashes with a kernel panic (capslock key blinking and
  system does not answer to magic SysRq keys) when coming back from a
  suspend.

  The bug reported in this forum post
  http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2318640 appears to be the
  same.

  Kernel 4.5.0-050400 from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-
  ppa/mainline/v4.5-wily fixes the crashes and oopses, although the
  Radeon GPU still does not work (DRI_PRIME=1 glxgears opens a black
  window). However, at least the system can be used with the Intel GPU
  in a stable fashion.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1594974] Re: bcmwl-kernel-source 6.30.223.248+bdcom-0ubuntu0.2: bcmwl kernel module failed to build

2016-08-06 Thread Georges Rodier
Have just recently installed Ubuntu MATE 14.04.2 LTS on a venerable HP
notebook. The install was done as Ubuntu 16.04 had failed miserably.

Today I got the notice regarding the need to install the new 16.04
hardware updater. N.B., yesterday that update went without a problem on
my older DELL PC (13 years old) where I had also recently done a
reinstall of UM 14.04.2.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1572801] Re: Ubuntu 16.04 Unity desktop uses much more ram than Ubuntu 15.10

2016-08-06 Thread andresimi
unfortunately for me, upgrading to kernel 4.7 didn't solve the issue.
Nor downgrading to kernels 3.13.10, 3.13.11 or 3.19.

2016-08-06 Thread Nial Murray
"As reported elsewhere, using system settings to disable auto login and
the re-enable it fixed the problem on Kubuntu."

This does NOT fix the issue for everyone.
I have done clean installs on 2 systems. If you set auto logon during install
it works. If you do not and try the above it will not work.

What are the command line commands in 16.04 to enable auto logon so i
can try that?

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1562093] Re: [Dell Inc. XPS 13 9350] hibernate/resume failure

2016-08-06 Thread Kostadin Stoilov
I can confirm the same behavior on an XPS 9550 with Ubuntu 16.04 and
kernel 4.4.0-31-generic. Unloading the brcmfmac driver does indeed allow
the system to hibernate successfuly. If it is still loaded the system
goes to a black screen and doe not turn off. The 9550 has the BCM43602
chip.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1609745] Re: Touch screen not working on Acer Chromebook R11, CONFIG_TOUCHSCREEN_ELAN not enabled on mainline 4.7 kernel

2016-08-06 Thread Timo Jyrinki
The actual problem/bug is that for some reason the mainline Ubuntu 4.7
kernel lacks CONFIG_TOUCHSCREEN_ELAN. In 4.4 Ubuntu kernel
CONFIG_TOUCHSCREEN_ELAN is defined, but the touchscreen doesn't work.

However with mainline Ubuntu kernel sources, and CONFIG_TOUCHSCREEN_ELAN
enabled manually via a recompilation, touch screen now works! That means
the touchscreen does work with mainline kernel but Ubuntu config is
wrong for 4.7.

+ Touch screen not working on Acer Chromebook R11, CONFIG_TOUCHSCREEN_ELAN not
enabled on mainline 4.7 kernel

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 902497] Re: ALSA Support for Roland GAIA SH-01 Synthesizer

2016-08-06 Thread John F Leach
@Stefan,

Glad to see you are working these issues. I was unaware of the problems
regarding power management with later kernels, I never saw the #84
message when I added support for the GAIA. I'm sure you will be able to
update the driver and I can test it when it's fixed with the latest
kernel. Let us know when you have a patch, thanks in advance.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1379912] Missing required logs.

2016-08-06 Thread Brad Figg
This bug is missing log files that will aid in diagnosing the problem.
>From a terminal window please run:

apport-collect 1379912

and then change the status of the bug to 'Confirmed'.

If, due to the nature of the issue you have encountered, you are unable
to run this command, please add a comment stating that fact and change
the bug status to 'Confirmed'.

This change has been made by an automated script, maintained by the
Ubuntu Kernel Team.

Bug description:
  Linux Mint 17 Qiana, Cinnamon Edition (all updates, Linux kernel

  Have it set to suspend when closing the lid, and all working fine so
  far. Later, when I then open the lid again and press any key, Linux
  resumes as usual but after a second or so it goes to suspend again, so
  I have to wake it up by pressing a key again (but then it stays on).
  Please note that this does not happen every time, maybe when I press a

  I've attached the relevant part of my pm-suspend.log if that helps

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1379912] Re: Laptop suspends again after waking up

2016-08-06 Thread Paul White
According to
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage#Suspend_and_Hibernate,
this bug should have initially been reported against the Linux kernel so
much time has been wasted.

Please don't file bugs against the project as they will seldom see any
action.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1450557] Re: 15.04: Broadwell HD 5500: screen corruption after logout

2016-08-06 Thread Nicholas Tolrud
I have a lemu5 installed with Xubuntu 16.04. I have seen the same kind
of screen wrapping when I try to use the modesetting driver in place of
xserver-xorg-video-intel (as suggested by its description). It manifests
itself somewhat randomly during normal use. I noticed it is particularly
bad when you repeatedly mouse over a playing Youtube video (In either
Firefox or Chromium).

Title:
  15.04: Broadwell HD 5500: screen corruption after logout

Status in System76:
  New
Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
  On a 1366x768 Broadwell i3-5010U laptop (System76 Lemur lemu5),
  sometimes after I logout there is strange horizontal
  wrapping/scrolling corruption at the lightdm login screen plus a fixed
  vertical wrapping (see attached video).

  After the first time that the screen goes wonky, I see this error in
  dmesg:

  [drm:intel_cpu_fifo_underrun_irq_handler [i915]] *ERROR* CPU pipe A
  FIFO underrun

  Logging back into to Unity seems to consistently fix the screen
  corruption after a few seconds.

  This doesn't happen every time you logout, but probably happens 1/3 of
  the time or so. Occasionally I'll also see similar corruption during
  shutdown right around the time that X stops and Plymouth takes over.

  Interestingly, on a Broadwell i3 desktop connected to a 1920x1080
  external display via HDMI, I've never encountered this problem. So it
  might be related to the specific 1366x768 screen resolution or to the
  embedded display port (eDP).

  I filed this bug against the kernel because of the dmesg error from
  the DRM module... but the problem could just as likely be in xserver-
  xorg-video-intel.

  For what it's worth, I've tried the latest 4.0 mainline build from the
  kernel PPA as well as the 4.1rc1 mainline build, and this problem
  still exists with both. I've also tried the slightly updated X
  packages for 15.04 from the xorg-edgers PPA, and this problem is
  likewise still present.
