[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1780062] Re: Cloud-init causes potentially huge boot delays with 4.15 kernels
Bug fix verified - normal boot times. Thnks! Linux think420 4.15.0-29-generic #31-Ubuntu SMP Tue Jul 17 15:39:52 UTC 2018 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1780062 Title: Cloud-init causes potentially huge boot delays with 4.15 kernels Status in cloud-init package in Ubuntu: Invalid Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Fix Committed Status in cloud-init source package in Bionic: Invalid Status in linux source package in Bionic: Fix Released Bug description: Newer 4.15 kernels contain the following fix for CVE-2018-1108: 43838a23a05fb ("random: fix crng_ready() test") This causes cloud-init to stall for a potentially long time during boot (waiting for entropy I presume). Google reported boot delays of 75 minutes. I've tracked this down to the following import in templater.py which causes the delay: from jinja2 import Template as JTemplate Which is called when cc_update_etc_hosts is imported. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1654517] Re: ZFS I/O hangs for minutes
Hello Karl-Philipp, Thank you for submitting this bug and reporting a problem with the zfs-linux package. You made this bug report in 2007 and there have been several versions of Ubuntu since then. Could you confirm that this is no longer a problem and that we can close the ticket? If it is still a problem, are you still interested in finding a solution to this bug? If you are, could you let us know and, in the current version, could you run the following (only once): apport-collect 1654517 and upload the updated logs and and any other logs that are relevant for this particular issue. Thank you again for helping make Ubuntu better. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1757008] Re: Broadcom wireless drivers failed to build [error: implicit declaration of function ‘init_timer’]
Here is what worked for me to restore WiFi functionality... 1. Run Software & Udpates from the launcher. In the Developer Options tab, check the box for Pre-released updates. This will require your admin password and will update the cache. 2. Run Software Updater from the launcher. It will present you with lots of options of stuff to update. Because I did not want to beta test the whole proposed release at this moment, but just fix my WiFi, I unchecked all of the updates except the Broadcom wireless driver. Then I installed this update, which did not require a reboot. 3. I tested the WiFi by unplugging the internet cable and connecting to wireless, which worked. A reboot was not requested so I didn't reboot. 4. Run Software & Udpates from the launcher. In the Developer Options tab, uncheck the box for Pre-released updates. This will require your admin password, again. It will update the cache. I did this because I don't want to install any further updates from the Proposed (pre- release) repository, just the one I needed to make WiFi work again. My computer is a very old Dell Inspiron with Ubuntu 16.04. The wireless was working until I updated the OS this morning and the update failed due to a Broadcom driver problem, as described in this post and also here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bcmwl/+bug/1777646. The above procedure corrected the problem without introducing any new problems. Thanks to everyone who contributed the fix! I have the same problem. Ther was not a problem with Linux Mint 19 Tara (Ubuntu 18.04) and kernel 4.13. As per the fix commit (below), the most frequent symptom is a crash of Xorg/Xwayland, i.e. killing the entire GUI, when a laptop is woken from system sleep. Frequency of the bug is described as once every few days[2]. It is not specific to any one hardware driver. Technically the suspend bug is triggered by the SCSI core - which is used by *all SATA devices*. The commit also includes a test which quickly and reliably proves the existence of a horrifying bug. I guess you might avoid this bug only if you have root on NVMe. The other way to not hit the Xorg crash is if you don't use all your RAM, so there's no pressure that leads to cold pages of Xorg being swapped. Also, you won't reproduce the Xorg crash if you suspend+resume immediately. (This frustrated my tests at one point, it only triggered after left the system suspended over lunch :). It seems that there is a bug reported on a similar issue, although I can not confirm that my touchpad hardware is exactly the same: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1688625 If so, there may be a whole new generation of slimline Windows 10 netbooks that have this problem. martin@alanah:~$ cat /proc/bus/input/devices I: Bus=0011 Vendor=0001 Product=0001 Version=ab83 N: Name="AT Translated Set 2 keyboard" P: Phys=isa0060/serio0/input0 S: Sysfs=/devices/platform/i8042/serio0/input/input2 U: Uniq= H: Handlers=sysrq kbd event2 leds B: PROP=0 B: EV=120013 B: KEY=40200 3803078f800d001 fedfffef fffe B: MSC=10 B: LED=7 I: Bus=0018 Vendor=0911 Product=5288 Version=0100 N: Name="SYNA3602:00 0911:5288 Touchpad" P: Phys=i2c-SYNA3602:00 S: Sysfs=/devices/pci:00/:00:16.1/i2c_designware.1/i2c-5/i2c-SYNA3602:00/0018:0911:5288.0001/input/input15 U: Uniq= H: Handlers=mouse0 event14 B: PROP=5 B: EV=1b B: KEY=e420 3 0 0 0 0 B: ABS=2608003 B: MSC=20 I: Bus=0003 Vendor=045e Product=00b9 Version=0111 N: Name="Microsoft Microsoft USB Wireless Mouse" P: Phys=usb-:00:15.0-1/input0 S: Sysfs=/devices/pci:00/:00:15.0/usb1/1-1/1-1:1.0/0003:045E:00B9.0002/input/input16 U: Uniq= H: Handlers=mouse1 event15 B: PROP=0 B: EV=17 B: KEY=1f 0 0 0 0 B: REL=1c3 B: MSC=10 ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 18.04 Package: linux-image-4.15.0-20-generic 4.15.0-20.21 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.15.0-20.21-generic 4.15.17 Uname: Linux 4.15.0-20-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.20.9-0ubuntu7 Architecture: amd64 CurrentDesktop: MATE Date: Mon Jun 11 07:57:56 2018 InstallationDate: Installed on 2018-04-25 (46 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu-MATE 18.04 LTS "Bionic Beaver" - Beta amd64 (20180404) SourcePackage: linux-signed UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) --- ApportVersion: 2.20.9-0ubuntu7 Architecture: amd64 AudioDevicesInUse: USERPID ACCESS COMMAND /dev/snd/controlC0: martin 1536 F pulseaudio CurrentDesktop: MATE DistroRelease: Ubuntu 18.04 InstallationDate: Installed on 2018-04-25 (48 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu-MATE 18.04 LTS "Bionic Beaver" - Beta amd64 (20180404) MachineType: Multicom Multicom U230 Package: linux (not installed) ProcFB: 0 inteldrmfb ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-4.15.0-20-generic root=UUID=c7a82fee-6e9d-491d-a38d-f5d6bdb4a930 ro ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.15.0-20.21-generic 4.15.17 RelatedPackageVersions: linux-restricted-modules-4.15.0-20-generic N/A linux-backports-modules-4.15.0-20-generic N/A linux-firmware 1.173 Tags: bionic Uname: Linux 4.15.0-20-generic x86_64 UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) UserGroups: adm cdrom dip lpadmin plugdev sambashare sudo _MarkForUpload: True dmi.bios.date: 09/15/2017 dmi.bios.vendor: American Megatrends Inc. dmi.bios.version: ORO10x.WP313P.NHNAUHL01 dmi.board.asset.tag: Default string dmi.board.name: Default string dmi.board.vendor: Default string dmi.board.version: Default string dmi.chassis.asset.tag: Default string dmi.chassis.type: 10 dmi.chassis.vendor: Default string dmi.chassis.version: Default string dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnAmericanMegatrendsInc.:bvrORO10x.WP313P.NHNAUHL01:bd09/15/2017:svnMulticom:pnMulticomU230:pvrDefaultstring:rvnDefaultstring:rnDefaultstring:rvrDefaultstring:cvnDefaultstring:ct10:cvrDefaultstring: dmi.product.family: U-series dmi.product.name: Multicom U230 dmi.product.version: Default string dmi.sys.vendor: Multicom To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1776155/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~kernel-packages Post to : kernel-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe :

That one works. On to 5856293c78e552c012835e667d66775bba20b4f7. I suspect 3f6a3b035f91 and abd39ac1da07 may be the real problem, since the CPU I am using is an AMD Ryzen chip, and those are tinkering specifically with how the kernel handles those. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1781924] Re: Kernel wrong temperature reporting
So it's a regression? Do you remember the kernel version that doesn't have this issue? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1781924 Title: Kernel wrong temperature reporting Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: I'm having some thermal trouble since I've started using kernel >4.0.x with my new laptop. According to psensor and sensord, CPU temperature jumps above the 90C, stays there for around 1second, and goes back to 50C. All transitions happen in around 100ms. I've cleaned and re- applied thermal paste and checked the connections twice. More interestingly, this doesn't happen when the CPU is under heavy-load, but when it is waiting idly. Sometimes sensord reports the CPU temp has gone over the critical threshold of the CPU and device shuts down itself immediately. There is also Windows 10 installed as a dual boot and didn't see this problem on it when idle or under heavy load. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1782888] Missing required logs.
This bug is missing log files that will aid in diagnosing the problem. While running an Ubuntu kernel (not a mainline or third-party kernel) please enter the following command in a terminal window: apport-collect 1782888 and then change the status of the bug to 'Confirmed'. If, due to the nature of the issue you have encountered, you are unable to run this command, please add a comment stating that fact and change the bug status to 'Confirmed'. This change has been made by an automated script, maintained by the Ubuntu Kernel Team. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1782888 Title: trackpad not recognised by kernel Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: This is a new laptop with reference TongFang GI5CN5E The UK supplier is unable to give me any further details about the trackpad, but they agree that there is a problem with the Linux kernel. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1782347] Re: [radeon] GDM3 fails to load without nomodeset
Sorry, no improvements. I booted the live cd in single mode, modified /etc/gdm3/custom.conf as follows, then exited the single mode and continued the normal boot process. 1) First attempt: #WaylandEnable=false I can see the purple background for a moment, then I'm sent back to text mode and the mouse arrow keeps flashing. 2) Second attempt: #WaylandEnable=false #AutomaticLoginEnable=true #AutomaticLogin=ubuntu This time I can't even see the purple background. All boots were made without 'nomodeset'. Thanks, MZ ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Confirmed ** Changed in: gdm3 (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1782347 Title: [radeon] GDM3 fails to load without nomodeset Status in gdm3 package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Both with the livecd (usb drive) and the installed version, I must boot with the 'nomodeset' kernel parameter at GRUB; otherwise GDM3 will not boot (the screen will keep on flashing in semi-textual mode, with a white mouse arrow stuck). This, however, prevents me from using the 'radeon' video driver, dropping me to a very basic 1024x768 vesa mode. The bug did NOT occur on Ubuntu 12.04, so it is a regression. Also, the bug does NOT occur on XUbuntu/XFCE 18.04, so it is a GDM3-Gnome related thing. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1782880] [NEW] KDE applications can not select anymore fstab or cifs mounted NTFS partions
Public bug reported: I’m using dual boot systems with kubuntu and windows. The common data partitions are NTFS partitions. Most were mounted in fstab already during installation; like: /home/user/ntfspartion. All kubuntu application like dolphin, digikam, kdenlive did recognize these partitions correctly as mounted in users home folder. Other, not fstab mounted NTFS partions, but mounted by cifs were correctly recognized by apps in /media/user/ntfspartion. However since a few weeks kubuntu applications of ubuntu versions 16.04 and 18.04 do not know anymore NTFS mounting points! Dolphin does not show anymore fstab mounted NFTS partitions in the personal folder, only in the places sidebar. Partitions mounted by cifs still displayed by dolphin in the sidebar but not in the directory /media/user/. While the XFCE file manager thunar still works as required. Kubuntu applications like digikam or kdenlive can not select anymore fstab or cifs mounted NTFS partions, so KDE applications can not used anymore. ** Affects: linux-firmware (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux-firmware in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1782880 Title: KDE applications can not select anymore fstab or cifs mounted NTFS partions Status in linux-firmware package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: I’m using dual boot systems with kubuntu and windows.
