I just followed Neitsab's workaround of doing a cold power off/power on
between OSes instead of a reboot and it seems to have worked (I now get
audio through both headphones and internal speakers). This explains why
I was able to get audio on the live USB as well.

'Elan touchpad' not detected on 'Lenovo
I have the same issue on a ZenBook UX433FLC. The internal speakers work
at least some of the time, but whenever I plug in headphones I just hear
a loud irregular clicking sound. The headphones work fine in Windows
10.
