I'm closing this because it no longer affects me. Suspend/Resume began
working around the time that I installed the proprietary video drivers,
and I suspect that the root problem was that the screen was not turning
on when the system resumed.

But I strongly suspect it's related to the high disk activity, as it's not the
first time I experience a whole system hang while doing massive disk operations
(i.e. copying tons of files from a disk to another).

seems that there is a problem with your hardware. I recommend
performing a back up and then investigating the situation. Measures you
might take include check

rather then not work at all.
The performance is still very poor :-(.
I don't know if Ubuntu ships the latest drivers. The Realtek drivers are not
good either, but seem to last a little bit longer before the connectio

Does that mean this is the offending patch? Do we need more installs to

Thanks for taking the lead on this! I tested your kernel packages, but
unfortunately they didn't solve this for me. The behaviour is slightly
different: instead of booting into a black screen, your packages boot
into a black screen with three white pixels at rather random locations.

Do you recall what specific version of 3.8 you used? The current
version, 3.8.0-32 does not allow a clean cherry-pick. It was dropped
from upstream stable 3.8 because of all the changes required to back
port it.
One other note, the 3.8 kernel is not an LTS release. The 3.2 kernel is
the last LT

I can now recreate the memory bloat using a basic NIH D-Bus server
program and associated client program.
1) Run the server as:
$ ./test_nih_dbus_server unix:abstract=/com/hunt/james/foo
com.hunt.james.Foo /com/hunt/james/Foo
2) Run the client as:
$ ./test_nih_dbus_client unix:a
