[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1258837] Re: [Dell Latitude E7440] ALPS touchpad keeps having state reset
I've produced a bug report here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1272624 The touchpad doesn't seems to jerk now in Ubuntu 14.04 alpha. (as an aside, the wifi on/off switch and sound now also both work out- of-the-box) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1258837 Title: [Dell Latitude E7440] ALPS touchpad keeps having state reset Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: This is very similar to bug 1048258 - the mouse cursor keeps on jumping around, and these messages appear in the log when it hapepns: Dec 7 21:57:26 wyvern kernel: [ 648.133841] psmouse serio1: DualPoint TouchPad at isa0060/serio1/input0 lost sync at byte 1 Dec 7 21:57:26 wyvern kernel: [ 648.134868] psmouse serio1: DualPoint TouchPad at isa0060/serio1/input0 lost sync at byte 1 Dec 7 21:57:26 wyvern kernel: [ 648.137921] psmouse serio1: DualPoint TouchPad at isa0060/serio1/input0 - driver resynced. This scanner worked fine in 12.04, 32-bit. I wiped the hard drive and installed 12.10, 64-bit, fresh. The scanner has not worked since and I can't figure out why. I'm not quite sure which package to put this bug in. The wiki says any hardware problems get assigned to the kernel, but my scanner shows up in lsusb and shows up in /var/log/udev. That makes it sound like the hardware is getting seen. What doesn't work is sane-find-scanner, xsane, simple-scan, or gscan2pdf. Nothing that actually interfaces with the scanner works. Yes, I'm in the scanner and saned groups. The USB device ID is 04c5:11a2. The device is in /lib/udev/rules.d/40-libsane.rules. The backend is enabled in /etc/sane.d/dll.conf. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 792698] Re: GPU hung ERROR => nothing is displayed on screen anymore.
[Expired for linux (Ubuntu) because there has been no activity for 60 days.] ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Expired -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/792698 Title: GPU hung ERROR => nothing is displayed on screen anymore. Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Expired Bug description: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel Since my upgrade to Ubuntu 11.04 with Unity, I sometimes have a GPU hung error in which case it seems the screen is 'dead' and does not show anything anymore. Here the error: May 26 13:02:42 ubuntu-server kernel: [22293.856048] [drm:i915_hangcheck_elapsed] *ERROR* Hangcheck timer elapsed... GPU hung May 26 13:02:42 ubuntu-server kernel: [22293.856069] [drm:kick_ring] *ERROR* Kicking stuck wait on render ring The system remains trying for every while to get control over the GPU, but without any effect. The lines above are repeated every couple of seconds in the logfile. If I do a Remote shell to my ubuntu machine it seems that the machine works without problems except for the videocard. If I do a reboot, everything works fine immediately again (including the videocard). In Windows7 (my system is dualboot) I have never experienced any problem with my videocard. I have a Intel® Desktop Board D945GSEJT motherboard with an ATOM 1.6 GHz processor on it and with an onboard i915 GPU chip. In an earlier version of Ubuntu I have had a problem with the videocard as well, after an upgrade to that version a strange problem occurred which caused my Xwindows to freeze completely. This was eventually fixed with upgrading to a higher version of the Linux kernel, but it seems related to not be able to get control over the GPU (that is at least what I remember). Info of my motherboard: http://www.intel.com/products/desktop/motherboards/D945GSEJT/D945GSEJT-overview.htm It has the latest available version of the BIOS inside. I have no clue how to continue and to get this issue solved. If I would have known on forehand I would not have upgraded to 11.04, because I want a stable system. Does anyone have any suggestions? Might be related to: #690201 and to #732304 but I don't think it is exactly the same. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1272429] Re: Trusty daily live ISOs will not boot; "Waiting for network configuration"
On the assumption that I need to run the apport-collect 1272429 command on the OS at fault running on the computer that will not boot, I regret that I am unable to do so as the nature of the bug is that I can not boot the Trusty OS iso on that machine. I could run the command on the machine which has LXLE installed (Lubuntu 12.04 based) but I presume that will not be helpful. Please let me know if it could assist with better hardware identification for you. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1272429 Title: Trusty daily live ISOs will not boot; "Waiting for network configuration" Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: I am trying to boot Xubuntu and Lubuntu 14.04 live desktop i386 on an old Acer laptop with Celeron 2.66GHz CPU, 512MB ram (I know, it is low on ram) and a Radeon Mobility 9100 igp. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1272429] Re: Trusty daily live ISOs will not boot; "Waiting for network configuration"
Unfortunately I am not able to file this against any specific package as I am not even able to get to a running OS. If there is some way to get a USB live system to boot in text modeI could try that and report at which stage the boot freezes. I have tried a great number of key presses, alone and in combination to skip past the network configuration but so far nothing has made any difference. The same daily images boot fine on two other machines that I have tried them on; it is just this one old laptop that is a problem. ** Package changed: ubuntu => linux (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1272429 Title: Trusty daily live ISOs will not boot; "Waiting for network configuration" Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: I am trying to boot Xubuntu and Lubuntu 14.04 live desktop i386 on an old Acer laptop with Celeron 2.66GHz CPU, 512MB ram (I know, it is low on ram) and a Radeon Mobility 9100 igp. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1258919] Re: 067b:2305 printing issue with parallel-to-usb adapter
I understand what you mean. actually I just setup Lprng and it is fully working : locally from lpr - not configurable from KDE/Systemsettings but I don't really care as this is on my firewall - then from my main computer with CUPS 1.6.1, I configured a remote printer : lpd://10.0.0.1/lp I just printed the test page from CUPS successfully, and 2 pages from another document. Unfortunately I don't have any further PCI slot available in my main computer for a true parallel port card. So I have right now a very good workaround. As far as I remember, before sending my first post for this case, I must have tried to print to parallel:/dev/usb/lp0 - and I am almost sure it did not work. Except if this would be very useful to you, as setting up Lprng has required some significant efforts, I would not run this test again right now. Can I ask if you have a clear roadmap leading someday to PL2305 being fully supported by Cups+libusb ? i understand that it must not be a top priority device, but then, there are still some old printers around ... -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1258919 Title: 067b:2305 printing issue with parallel-to-usb adapter Status in “cups” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: I have an old HP Deskjet 710C parallel printer. I really don't print a lot, so it ages well. I just replaced my former desktop with a new barebone without parallel port - no space to embed a PCI IEEE 1284 adapter. So I just bought a cable which is a parallel-to-usb adapter : it is a Sweex adapter, the kernel recognizes it as : Prolific Technology, Inc. PL2305 Parallel Port I configured cups to use this new adapter, with the same old pnm2ppa driver. When I try to print a test page from cups (or other printings) it goes well, until close to the end, when the printing suddenly stops, without the sheet being released : I have to power off the printer, which as a side effect triggers the sheet ejection before power off. I read various articles and forums on this topic before posting. Playing with usblp, kernel blacklists and /dev/usb/lp0 does not solve anything. I wanted to be sure that it was not the Prolific controller which was flawed. So I connected it to a windows 7 virtual machine into Virtualbox; Windows installed various drivers, and eventually various printings ran seamlessly - without my issue on GNU/Linux. So my conclusion is that the controller is ok. I also just tested mainline kernel http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel- ppa/mainline/v3.13-rc3-trusty/linux- image-3.13.0-031300rc3-generic_3.13.0-031300rc3.201312061335_amd64.deb . [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1258919] Re: 067b:2305 printing issue with parallel-to-usb adapter
As a workaround you can try the following setup (kernel module "usblp" must be loaded, check with "lsmod"): lpadmin -p test -E -v parallel:/dev/usb/lp0 -P /etc/cups/ppd/DESKJET- 710C.ppd Try to print on this new print queue named "test". Does it work? Another workaround is to connect your printer to a router or NAS with print server functionality. Most devices which have a USB or parallel port have this functionality, check the configuration web interface of your device. After that set up your printer as network printer with the IP/hostname of your router/NAS. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Medium -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1183125 Title: Haswell: Ensuring HDA codec pins refer to physical outputs Status in intel: Fix Released Status in System76: Fix Committed Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Status in “linux” source package in Quantal: Won't Fix Status in “linux” source package in Raring: Fix Released Bug description: From David's email: http://mailman.alsa-project.org/pipermail/alsa- devel/2013-May/062105.html The HDA driver assumes that a codec pin widget node always refers to the same physical output. With Haswell, it seems like this is not guaranteed to be true. I would like to see this fixed on the graphics side. If not, I don't know how to work around it on the audio side. The problems that occur on the audio side are: 1) Some BIOSes set default pin config. E g, if the machine has a single HDMI out, it can set two of the codec pins to "not connected" and let the third remain "jack". As a result, the HDA driver will ignore the two codec pins and only enable the third. As such, HDMI audio will not work correctly, unless it's the third codec pin that is connected to the physical output. 2) Saving and restoring mutes, volumes etc is done on a per-pin basis. E g, imagine that a user has a dual monitor setup and always wants audio output from the left side monitor, and keep the right side monitor silent. If it is not reliable which codec pin refers to which physical output, one day suddenly the sound might come out on the right side monitor instead. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 955287] Re: Ubuntu should handle "hot" CPUs by taking preemptive action and warning users
Hmm, I'm not sure why you need to unload the thinkpad acpi driver. Can you force fan control mode with options thinkpad_acpi fan_control=1 in a /etc/modprobe.d/ .conf file and this will configure the driver at boot time. I also suggest enabling the intel-pstate driver. Ubuntu currently has a patch to turn this off by default, and it can be enabled by changing /etc/default/grub and set the following: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash intel_pstate=enable" then run: sudo update-grub and reboot. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/955287 Title: Ubuntu should handle "hot" CPUs by taking preemptive action and warning users Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: If the kernel detects your CPU(s) is/are too hot currently (see bug 751689), the kernel calls /sbin/poweroff. This will provide a "graceful" system shutdown. If /sbin/poweroff fails, the kernel just forcibly shuts the system down. However, both strategies are last resorts and are called when the system temperature has reached a critical level. However, the kernel seems to emit an ACPI event when it detects the CPU(s) are merely "hot". I suggest we consider adding an acpi hook to attempt to avoid a "critical" scenario. Currently, the user experience when "critical" gets hit is not good - the system just shuts down with no warning whatsoever. This is alarming in the extreme to users. Ideas: - proactively attempt to kill off power hogging processes (use powertop?) - ramp fans to maximum and present the user with a warning window explaining what is happening. - present the user with a window of high-power processes and ask *them* to select the processes they'd like to kill off in an effort to avoid a system shutdown. Problems: - it is unclear (to me atleast) how close (in terms of degrees centigrade) "hot" and "critical" are (is it different for all CPUs ?) As such, it is unclear how long (time) it might take for a system that is hot to go critical and just shutdown. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1258919] Re: 067b:2305 printing issue with parallel-to-usb adapter
Hello, Can anybody tell me why this bug is still considered "Incomplete" ? I guess I have been thorough with the informations I supplied as requested : did I do any mistake ? Best regards R. Grasso -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1258919 Title: 067b:2305 printing issue with parallel-to-usb adapter Status in “cups” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: I have an old HP Deskjet 710C parallel printer. No improvement, my test page stops being printed at the same spot close to the end. So I can assume that there is a bug in the controller's driver. Best regards R. I think I started seeing it around October on Fedora 19, but at the time I was too busy with other matters to do any troubleshooting, so I just substituted my USB keyboard and trackball. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 488152] Re: 1002:9552 [HP ProBook 4710s] With ATI restricted driver deactivated, GPU is overheating
It won't help Thomas87 (knot-tomas) or himynameiskevin (kevinpook), but proper power management for AMD/ATI Radeon R600 and newer hardware is finally available in the 3.11 linux kernel. Ubuntu 13.10 "Saucy Salamander" is based on the 3.11 kernel and also includes the necessary updated radeon firmware. On Saucy, to use this power management for the AMD/ATI Radeon you will need to select it at boot by adding radeon.dpm=1 to your GRUB kernel boot options as described at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Grub2/Troubleshooting#Editing_the_GRUB_2_Menu_During_Boot See the blog post at http://www.botchco.com/agd5f/?p=57 for further information. Unlike the older dynpm method, the new DPM method works with multiple monitors and there shouldn't be any flickering as the performance level changes are handled by dedicated hardware rather than the driver. The currently under-development Ubuntu 14.04 "Trusty Tahr" is based on the 3.13 kernel which enables DPM by default (without needing the radeon.dpm=1 boot parameter I mentioned above) for Radeon HD 4000 through Radeon HD 7000 series graphics processors but with some specific ASICs being excluded. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 570589] Re: Lucid: Overheating due to no PM for ATI KMS
The currently under-development Ubuntu 14.04 "Trusty Tahr" is based on the 3.13 kernel. You can download a pre-release version at http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ and the final release is scheduled for April 17th, 2014 as per https://wiki.ubuntu.com/TrustyTahr/ReleaseSchedule -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/570589 Title: Lucid: Overheating due to no PM for ATI KMS Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Bug description: As you know the code in Lucid's -32 kernel doesn't have support for power management on ATI cards with KMS (which is default). This is not a problem for desktop users, but laptop users with beefy cards may run into severe overheating issues. I expect the forums to flood with these problems once lucid is final. I have experienced this on two (laptop) machines at home: GPU and CPU share a heatsink thus the CPU gets very hot too when idling. In one case this lead to the CPU (both are C2Ds) being constantly stuck at 800 MHz a few minutes after booting (Once it went over 75° or something like that), in the other case the CPU temps went up to 80° in idle even with the fans at full speed. Switching to fglrx OR a newer kernel and PM OR UMS and PM fixes this, but I feel KMS on ATI as a default is a bad decision right now. I hope this gets fixed with 10.10 as the PM code hits MMs kernel. Most likely we won't be able to do anything about this bug (unless there's a kernel upgrade in one of lucid's point releases) so I guess the purpose of this bugreport is more or less to track this issue during the development of MM. --- Architecture: amd64 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.04 InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 10.04 "Lucid Lynx" - Alpha amd64 (20100113) Package: linux (not installed) ProcEnviron: LANGUAGE=de_AT:de:de_DE:de_CH:de_LU:de_LI:de_BE:en PATH=(custom, user) LANG=de_AT.utf8 SHELL=/bin/bash Tags: lucid Uname: Linux 2.6.34-rc5-klausi x86_64 UnreportableReason: The running kernel is not an Ubuntu kernel UserGroups: adm admin audio cdrom dialout dip fax floppy fuse lpadmin netdev plugdev sambashare tape vboxusers video To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/570589/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~kernel-packages Post to : kernel-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~kernel-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 748080] Re: 1002:9612 [HP Pavilion tx2500 Notebook PC] ATI card fan is always on with opensource radeon driver
Ubuntu 13.10 "Saucy Salamander" is based on the 3.11 kernel and includes the necessary updated radeon firmware as well. On Saucy, to use this power management for the AMD/ATI Radeon you will need to select it at boot by adding radeon.dpm=1 to your GRUB kernel boot options as described at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Grub2/Troubleshooting#Editing_the_GRUB_2_Menu_During_Boot The currently under-development Ubuntu 14.04 "Trusty Tahr" is based on the 3.13 kernel which enables DPM by default (without needing the radeon.dpm=1 boot parameter I mentioned above) for Radeon HD 4000 through Radeon HD 7000 series graphics processors but with some specific ASICs being excluded. You can download a pre-release version at http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ and the final release is scheduled for April 17th, 2014 as per https://wiki.ubuntu.com/TrustyTahr/ReleaseSchedule -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/748080 Title: 1002:9612 [HP Pavilion tx2500 Notebook PC] ATI card fan is always on with opensource radeon driver Status in X.org XServer - ATI gfx chipset driver: Confirmed Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Won't Fix Bug description: $ cat /sys/class/drm/card0/device/power_profile low When I use the opensource driver for my ATI card the notebook fan is always spinning and temperature of outgoing air from fan is very high, even when I set /sys/class/drm/card0/device/power_profile to low and cpu mode to powersave. With proprietary drivers (fglrx) I set video card performance to "ondemand" (I forgot the exact name of this mode in ATI control center) and cpu mode to ondemand, and the notebook isn't hot, fans are not spinning (if I don't start flash, games or some similar app with high cpu load). So with fglrx I can use the notebook on battery for 1.5 - 2 hours and it's not hot, but with the opensource driver notebook on battery is dead in 50 minutes, the fan is always on, it noise is loud, and the notebook is very hot. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1256949] Re: Dell Latitude E5420 doesn't boot if killswitch is turned to "radio off"
Sounds like the original driver had caused the kernel to become totally unresponsive. Glad the problem has been resolved for you. Please could you attach the output of "sudo lshw -c network" to this bug so we can see the details of your broadcom wireless card? [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1269777] Re: [ Ubuntu 14.04 - Lenovo W510 - SSD Samsung 840 PRO 512GB] Sudden Read-Only Filesystem
Fri, 24 Jan 2014 08:54:15 +0100 08:54:15 up 1 day, 20:49, 4 users, load average: 0,90, 2,21, 1,61 Hi again, as said in comment #50, I put a clone of the SSD, Seagate Momentus XT Hypbrid into the laptop. As you can see, the system is running without any problems: no NCQ warnings, no problems after supspend, hibernation, docking. And this this tlp enabled and ACPI powermanagement in the bios. I also tested the SSD in a Thinkpad X201 yesterday evening which has the the same chipset. There I had exact the same problems! I filed a question in lenovos forum and the answer is clear: nothing but trouble with the Samsung 840 series with this Cipset! People did not have trouble with the 830 series and capacities of 256 GB: - http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/W-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/W510-SSD-My- Story/td-p/1401955/highlight/false The only drive which is guarantied by manufactor to run with the Thinkpad W510 with a capacity of more than 256GB (!) - there is none of this size in the hardware specifications mentioned by lenovo - is the crucial M500 480GB. - http://www.crucial.com/store/mpartspecs.aspx?mtbpoid=AC617B31A5CA7304 # CONCLUSION -- I have to return the Samsung 840 Pro 512 GB (as I did with the Samsung 840 EVO) and have to state that it is not compatible with the Thinkpad W510 and the Intel 5/3400 Chipset and the BIOS 6NET84WW (1.45 ) 10/03/2012. All efforts to get things running stable where - in the end - not successfull. Probably this bug report might help to fix things in future kernels or lenovo will fix this. Sorry that I can't wait until this will happen ;-) Cheers, over and out. Closing bug.
