After resuming from suspend, I find gnome-shell has crashed. If I try to
restart gnome-shell or gdm after this all I get is the following
message. Everything does work fine on initial boot up until I suspend.
intel_do_flush_locked failed: Invalid argument

This does (mostly) fix the problem, but not entirely, so I'll tag it

power-off state, sound works fine through the amplifier.

I have just recompiled the kernel with this commit reverted, and now the screen
displays properly again.
This patch was included also in other kernels (Saucy and Precise for

Can I ask why you think this might be a kernel bug? I've had this problem for
about 11 years, with multiple kernels, distros and both AMD and Nvidia
graphics cards. I always fixed it with the binary driver. However, I only just
discovered that it could also be fixed by the correct

When running under VMWare (tested VMWare player 6.0.2) the display does
not resize correctly. Once the screen width reaches 800 pixels wide it
starts to show the same contents again.

Both affected PCs have MSI-FM2-A55M-E33 motherboards but the AMD APUs
differ (one's an A8, this one is an A6).
The cure for me, spotted elsewhere here, is to add
nomodeset

I think I'm affected by a similar issue. In my case i use USB audio speakers.
Each time I select them as an output device - yes they work, but constantly the
following messages are logged:
