I wish I had a different card. I would have preferred a dual band card.
Also, this driver in 3.16 seems stable, I've been using it since my earlier

In 3.13.0-33-generic, root in a non-init user namespace can do overlayfs
mounts. In 3.16.0-5-generic he cannot.

I've seen this error occur on m3.medium (3.75GB RAM) and c3.large
(3.75GB) EC2 instances, but not on m3.large (7.5GB), m3.xlarge (15GB) or
t2.small (4GB) instances.
Interestingly, it also does not occur on t2.micro (1GB) instances.
All of the VMs in question are running kernel 3.13.0-29-generic

I wish I knew how to fix it. I'm facing exactly the same problem as you.
Since I started using Larry's git driver, I need to try reconnecting for
15-30 times (ie removing and inserting modules, killing wpa_supplicant
etc), until I get a reliable connection. That usually takes 10+ minute

in scope to the Ubuntu SRU process, e.g., each patch has to
demonstrably fix a bug, and each patch is vetted by upstream
by originating either directly

This looks to be a kernel side issue which was fixed in 3.14 by:
* nfs: check if gssd is running before attempting to use krb5i auth in
SETCLIENTID call
* sunrpc: replace sunrpc_net->gssd_running flag with a more reliable check
* sunrpc: create a new dummy pipe for gssd to hold open
