[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1310762] Re: [HP ZBook 15 Mobile Workstation] Ubuntu 14.04 random freeze and lock up

2014-12-23 Thread Anonymous Linux User
Also getting this with a zBook 15 and Ubuntu 14.10
Linux 3.16.0-28-generic #38-Ubuntu SMP Fri Dec 12 17:37:40 UTC 2014 x86_64
x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

$ lspci | grep -i vga
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 4th Gen Core Processor
Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 06)
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GK107GLM [Quadro K1100M]
(rev ff)

$ dpkg --list | grep nvidia
ii nvidia-331 331.113-0ubuntu0.1
 amd64NVIDIA binary driver - version 331.113
ii nvidia-331-uvm 331.113-0ubuntu0.1

ii nvidia-opencl-icd-331 331.113-0ubuntu0.1

ii nvidia-prime0.6.7
 amd64Tools to enable NVIDIA's Prime
ii nvidia-settings 331.20-0ubuntu8
amd64Tool for configuring the NVIDIA graphics driver

Ctrl-alt-F1 , ctrl-alt-f7 workaround unlocks things.

Tried changing /etc/default/grub to have

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash rcutree.rcu_idle_gp_delay=1"

but it did not change the lockup.

In kern.log get

 kernel: [ 6891.094246] ACPI Warning: \_SB_.PCI0.PEGP.DGFX._DSM:
Argument #4 type mismatch - Found [Buffer], ACPI requires [Package]
(20140424/nsarguments-95)

If I run "nvidia-settings" and change "PRIME profiles" from

NVIDIA (Performance Mode)
to
Intel (Power Saving Mode)

then it stops the lock up

May be related to https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-
bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=763272 as I noticed that

With PRIME profile as NVIDIA you get (the below number is from memory - but the
ON I know was set )
$ cat /proc/acpi/bbswitch
:01:00.0 ON

and it can't be changed as per bug
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=763272

Also with PRIME profile as Intel you get
$ cat /proc/acpi/bbswitch
:01:00.0 OFF

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1247712] Re: Unable to install Broadcom STA wireless driver on Precise 3.8 / 3.11 / 3.13 kernel via jockey-gtk

Bug description:
  SRU request:

  Please accept jockey_0.9.7-0ubuntu7.15 into precise-proposed.

  [Impact]

Kernel versions higher than 3.8 fail to rebind the Broadcom device to
the driver thus compromising system stability. While rebinding is a
nice feature it can't come at the cost of system stability. For this
reason we'll disable this feature when dealing with Linux >= 3.8 and
preserve it in the other cases.

  [Test Case]

Install and reboot into Linux 3.8 or higher (linux-lts-saucy or linux-
lts-trusty), then use Jockey to install the broadcom wireless driver.
Jockey will hang and the system will probably hang on shutdown.

  [Regression Potential]

It should be minimal i.e. there won't be device rebinding on the
livecd. This, however, shouldn't be an issue since the open broadcom
driver should already work out of the box.

Furthermore the test suite now covers this test case.

  CID: 201303-13027 Dell Inspiron 5535
  CID: 201012-6925 Dell Latitude E6320
  CID: 201208-11536 Dell Latitude 6430u

  Affected chipsets:
  Broadcom 4365
  Broadcom 4313 [14e4:4727] (rev 01)
  Broadcom 43132

The bcmwl (6.20.155.1+bdcom-0ubuntu0.0.2) cannot be installed on
  12.04.4 (3.11.0-15), 12.04.3 (3.8.0-29)

  Steps:
  1. Install Ubuntu 12.04.3 (or 12.04.4) + update
  2. Boot to desktop
  3. Install the Broadcom STA wireless driver via jockey-gtk

Driver cannot be installed, jockey-gtk will stuck at "Downloading and

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1405298] Re: [Dell M4800]: iwlwifi regularly loses connection on Intel 7260

2014-12-23 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
arty, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. As per
http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/product-support/product/precision-m4800-workstation/drivers
an update to your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (A11). If
you update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does
it change anything? If it doesn't, could you please both specify what
happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't
have to create a new bug report.

Once the BIOS is updated, then please mark this report Status Confirmed.

Thank you for your understanding.

Title:
[Dell M4800]: iwlwifi regularly loses connection on Intel 7260

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
My problem seems to be different from #1315221 because it exists in
  3.16.0-28-generic (Ubuntu 14.10)

About every 10 minutes my WiFi disconnects and a line like this appears in
syslog:
  Dec 23 21:58:36 work kernel: [ 1762.008441] wlan0: deauthenticated from
10:c6:1f:2c:49:56 (Reason: 7=CLASS3_FRAME_FROM_NONASSOC_STA)

Workarounds like 11n_disable=1 and `sudo modprobe -r iwlwifi; sudo
modprobe iwlwifi` don't seem to help.

What helps is disabling network and enabling it again.

Another detail is that I don't remember seeing this problem at work
where they use Cisco routers. I see the problem at home with my
  Speedport 723V Typ A router (a+b+n mode, WPA2).

Bug description:
Newer versions of the Elantech multitouch trackpad are not fully
supported in Linux. These appear in many of the newer Samsung
laptops, for example. elantech.c in the kernel needs to be updated to
support these models (up to v7 perhaps?)

This bug is confirmed to affect a range of samsung laptops running
Ubuntu 12.04 and newer, ArchLinux, Fedora and also affects the current
  (3.9) upstream kernel.

A dkms package was produced in 2011 (see
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-
intel/+bug/681904/comments/64) which may fix certain older laptops
affected by this issue, but doesn't fix newer models.

  == Original Report ==

  Hello,

So far I've been having a problem with my Elantech multitouch trackpad in
Linux. Basically all i get is right click, left click, and tap to click, along
with basic movement. The problem seems to be rooted in improper detection of
the trackpad, likely b/c its a new revision or whatnot. Of note is that working
elantech trackpads of the past in forums i scouted through show up as "ETPS/2
Elantech Touchpad". Mine just shows up in xinput as "PS/2 Elantech Touchpad". I
think this might be a simple fix in the end, just improper detection, I hope.
For reference, I've tried kernel 3.5 on Ubuntu 12.10 and kernel 3.8.0-17 on
Ubuntu 13.04 thus far, with all combinations of psmouse.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1284936] Re: BUG: unable to handle kernel paging request at ffffc900051f5000

2014-12-23 Thread Joel Barnes
I can reproduce this. I first noticed it during a failed boot when I
accidentally left an old USB boot drive in the USB port. Later I was
running some Phoronix stress tests, which crash and show the same error
in the crash report details being sent to [who?].

Anyway, it crashes on the following test:
124: TTSIOD 3D Renderer - Processor

First I noticed it when running the processor test suite. But then I
could run this test alone and still recreate it. It happens about 60-90
seconds into the test. The test itself just hangs at that point.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1405298] [NEW] [Dell M4800]: iwlwifi regularly loses connection on Intel 7260

2014-12-23 Thread arty
Public bug reported:

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1405278] [NEW] Suspend problem when running LiveUSB from USB 3.0 port (but not 2.0 port)

2014-12-23 Thread Ping-Wu
Public bug reported:

When running Ubuntu 14.04/14.10 from LiveUSB, the system would crash
after suspend (either by closing the lid or forcing the system to
suspend), when the USB stick was inserted into USB 3.0 port.

This problem was experienced with both USB 2.0 and 3.0 stick.

No problem was observed when the Ubuntu LiveUSB stick (either USB 2.0 or
3.0) was inserted into a USB 2.0 port. (I.e., the Ubuntu system would
wake up normally after suspend when USB 2.0 port was used).

When I installed 14.04/14.10 into a USB stick (3.0), Ubuntu would wake
up normally from suspend (i.e. no problem with the USB 3.0 port with an
installed USB stick).

It thus appears that this is not a BIOS problem. The suspend (or more
specifically, wake-up) problem only occurred when booting from a LiveUSB
stick (USB 2.0/3.0) in a USB 3.0 slot.

Update: With Ubuntu 15.04, I was able to wake up the LiveUSB when it
was on USB 2.0 stick in a USB 3.0 port, but not on USB 3.0 stick.

Galaxy Trend too. I tested with blueman, no chance.

I can connect this smartphone in other laptop (Itautec Infoway W7415)

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1315369] Re: Log in not available after lock screen with multi-monitor

2014-12-23 Thread Stephen Rasku
I had this problem when I came back from lunch today. I am running a
desktop with two DisplayPort monitors. I was able to move the cursor
from monitor to monitor but no prompt appeared to allow me to enter my
password. I had to go into a text console to reboot. I had a VM
running which got aborted so this is very annoying.

Furthermore, if I then unplug the external monitor (in an attempt to

I can't reproduce this if I select "lock screen" from the UI, but it

  - I am running a fresh install of 14.04
  - I have it set to lock after 5 min of inactivity, and require login after
lock

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad T540p and the wireless connection isn't
working correctly. It will list the available networks but when trying
to connect it will keep asking for the password or when it connects
the connection will last only few seconds and the packet loss on a
  ping will be very high.

  I've followed bug
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-firmware/+bug/1354975 in order
to find a solution but without luck. I've tried to turn off power management,
install latest kernel ( linux-image-3.17.0-031700-generic ) and related updated
firmware according to http://wireless.kernel.org/en/users/Drivers/iwlwifi .
Tried also the updated firmware for the older kernel and with the older kernel.
I've tried also Ubuntu 14.10 with same results. I've tried to move closer to
the router but with no change at all.

Title:
[HP Compaq nx6310] Function buttons for brightness stopped working

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
In 14.04 using kernel 3.13 the special function buttons of this HP
Compaq nx6310 laptop used to work correctly. I could increase or
decrease brightness, invoke the battery settings (mostly useless but
it worked), switch to an external display or enter sleep mode. The key
functions are invoked using Fn + the key with the designated function
  as listed below.

  Fn + F3 - Sleep - button/sleep SBTN 0080 K
  Fn + F4 - Switch to external display - video/switchmode VMOD 0080
  Fn + F8 - Battery information - button/battery BAT 0080 K
  Fn + F9 - Brightness down - video/brightnessdown BRTDN 0087
  Fn + F10 - Brightness up - video/brightnessup BRTUP 0086

I went through the troubleshooting steps described at
  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Hotkeys/Troubleshooting. In 14.10 none of
these buttons work. Using acpi_listen I found that no events are fired
in 14.10, but under 14.04 these buttons do indeed fire ACPI events and
thus work correctly. The ACPI events listed above are fired in 14.04
using kernel 3.13 but are not fired under 14.10 using kernel 3.16.

Using xbacklight I can still change the brightness in 14.10, if that
  information is of any help.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1394368] Re: Bluetooth with AR9462 doesn't work (New ID /Firmware)

2014-12-23 Thread Vlad Ivanov
I have this bug on Acer Aspire V3-371-59W7 with kernel
3.16.0-28-generic.

Intalling DKMS package doesn't help, dmesg contains fimware loading
error (same as posted above). Also, bluetooth works after rebooting from
Windows.

Bluetooth with AR9462 doesn't work (New ID /Firmware)

Status in linux-firmware package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
This is (kind of) a duplicate of:
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1024884
  (please read)

  I can't use Bluetooth with my AR9462 WLAN/BT-Combo.
In the link above, it has been fixed, but not for my Adapter ID/Firmware:

  System:
  Ubuntu 14.10 utopic 64bit - 3.16.0-24-generic x86_64

  lspci -nnk
  02:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Qualcomm Atheros AR9462
Wireless Network Adapter [168c:0034] (rev 01)
Subsystem: Lite-On Communications Inc Device [11ad:0802]
   Kernel driver in use: ath9k

  lsusb (identified Bluetooth Device)
  Bus 002 Device 003: ID 04ca:300d Lite-On Technology Corp.

  ath9k.conf
  options ath9k btcoex_enable=1

The "04ca:300d" ID is not in the Kernel, so i added it via dkms.

I took ath3k.c and btusb.c out of the 3.16.0-24-generic source files
  and changed them:

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1263351] Re: 0489:e062 [Sony VAIO SVF1421C5E] Bluetooth adapter does not work with Broadcom driver

2014-12-23 Thread Miguel Barrio Orsikowsky
I can confirm what it is told in #20 works perfectly for me, so you only
need to grab the Windows driver (mine was from a Windows 8.1 64 bit
installation).

Title:
0489:e062 [Sony VAIO SVF1421C5E] Bluetooth adapter does not work with
  Broadcom driver

Status in bcmwl package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
This laptop has bluetooth 4.0, and it does not connect to a Galaxy
  Trend GT-S7560, Android 4.0.4, kernel 3.0.8-1224927.

The smartphone does not find the laptop, and ubuntu does not find
Galaxy Trend too. I tested with blueman, no chance.

  BIOS version: R0220DA 11/18/2013

  The bluetooth device is this:

   Kernel driver in use: bcma-pci-bridge

  hcitool dev
  Devices:
   hci0 3C:77:E6:D9:F2:88

It seems that firmware was not loaded:

Someone did a patch to broadcom driver, and it works:
  http://emelramone.host22.com/Linux/BCM43142A0paraOM.html . I did here,
  but it did not work.

I can connect this smartphone in other laptop (Itautec Infoway W7415)
with xubuntu trusty, and it is very easy, both xubuntu and galaxy
  trend find themselves.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1371159] Re: [MacBookPro11, 1] Unable to suspend in ubuntu 14.04

2014-12-23 Thread Albert
Christopher, thanks for your help so far. Would love to try 3.19 but
considering how involved that is given the disfunctional grub, until I
find a tutorial on how to address the booting issues I rather not commit
more time to this issue.

Title:
[MacBookPro11,1] Unable to suspend in ubuntu 14.04

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
I cannot make a MacBookPro 11,1 suspend. When putting the lid down,
acpi_listen prints:
  button/lid LID close
  button/lid LID open

... so the lid is signalling correctly. Upon opening, the screensaver
prompt is present, and typing in the password brings me back to the
desktop. Nothing is found in dmesg.

When choosing "suspend" from the top-right power menu, the screen goes
black and shortly lights up again, showing the screensaver login
prompt. Typing in the password brings me back to the desktop as if
  nothing had happened.

To remark that the power menu in the System Settings shows sometimes
  "Suspend" as greyed out.

install latest kernel ( linux-image-3.17.0-031700-generic ) and related updated
firmware according to http://wireless.kernel.org/en/users/Drivers/iwlwifi .
Tried also the updated firmware for the older kernel and with the older kernel.
I've tried also Ubuntu 14.10 with same results. I've tried to move closer to
the router but with no change at all.

2014-12-23 Thread Federico Sassi
ok, I understand.
I'll use the wifi for a period of time with kernel 3.18.1 and 3.13.
Since there are going to be holidays (and I'll not be in the office) I'll get
back to you in the new year.
Thank you

Title:
  Intel wireless 3160 ac unsable/disconnection

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I am experiencing problems with Intel wireless 3160 ac on Ubuntu 14.04. At
the moment I am using the kernel 3.13.0-37_3.13.0-37.64+iwlltr0001 from:
http://people.canonical.com/~sforshee/iwl-ltr/trusty/ and the firmware
iwlwifi-3160-9-ucode.
I am usually observing the wireless behaviour through wavemon and the number
of invalid misc increases continuously when I am surfing on the internet.
Occasionally the pages stop loading and the the number of mac retries
increases. After around of 1Gb downloaded (or less) I always losing the
connection, the network-manager has to be restarted but the wireless connection
cannot be recovered until I reboot. Usually the bitrate is around 1-2Mbit/s.
I have tried already the kernel 3.16.3 but the problem is even worse.

Bug description:
  Starting in 3.15, arm64 began defaulting to non-coherent dma_ops:

  commit c7a4a7658d689f664050c45493d79adf053f226e
  Author: Ritesh Harjani
  Date: Wed Apr 23 06:29:46 2014 +0100

arm64: Make default dma_ops to be noncoherent

Firmware (dtb in the case of the m400) is responsible for telling the
kernel when a device requires coherent dma_ops. However, as of utopic,
this property is not being inherited by downstream devices.
Specifically, the xgene-pcie device is marked as coherent, but the
devices behind it (mellanox card) still get initialized with non-
  coherent ops.

This results in the mlx4 driver bailing out with the following messages:
  [ 18.703635] mlx4_core :01:00.0: command 0x23 timed out (go bit not
cleared)
[ 18.710911] mlx4_core :01:00.0: Failed to initialize queue pair table,
aborting

There's an upstream discussion on the topic here:
http://www.spinics.net/lists/arm-kernel/msg362320.html

Title:
[HP Compaq nx6310] Function buttons for brightness stopped working

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
