[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1247712] Re: Unable to install Broadcom STA wireless driver on Precise 3.8 / 3.11 / 3.13 kernel via jockey-gtk
** Changed in: jockey (Ubuntu Precise) Status: Fix Committed => In Progress -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to bcmwl in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1247712 Title: Unable to install Broadcom STA wireless driver on Precise 3.8 / 3.11 / 3.13 kernel via jockey-gtk Status in Jockey driver manager: Invalid Status in bcmwl package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in jockey package in Ubuntu: Invalid Status in linux-lts-trusty package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in bcmwl source package in Precise: Confirmed Status in jockey source package in Precise: In Progress Status in linux-lts-trusty source package in Precise: Confirmed Status in bcmwl package in Baltix: Confirmed Bug description: SRU request: Please accept jockey_0.9.7-0ubuntu7.15 into precise-proposed. [Impact] Kernel versions higher than 3.8 fail to rebind the Broadcom device to the driver thus compromising system stability. While rebinding is a nice feature it can't come at the cost of system stability. For this reason we'll disable this feature when dealing with Linux >= 3.8 and preserve it in the other cases. [Test Case] Install and reboot into Linux 3.8 or higher (linux-lts-saucy or linux- lts-trusty), then use Jockey to install the broadcom wireless driver. Jockey will hang and the system will probably hang on shutdown. [Regression Potential] It should be minimal i.e. there won't be device rebinding on the livecd. This, however, shouldn't be an issue since the open broadcom driver should already work out of the box. Furthermore the test suite now covers this test case. == Description == CID: 201303-13027 Dell Inspiron 5535 CID: 201012-6925 Dell Latitude E6320 CID: 201208-11536 Dell Latitude 6430u Affected chipsets: Broadcom 4365 Broadcom 4313 [14e4:4727] (rev 01) Broadcom 43132 The bcmwl (6.20.155.1+bdcom-0ubuntu0.0.2) cannot be installed on 12.04.4 (3.11.0-15), 12.04.3 (3.8.0-29) Steps: 1. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1405298] Re: [Dell M4800]: iwlwifi regularly loses connection on Intel 7260
arty, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. As per http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/product-support/product/precision-m4800-workstation/drivers an update to your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (A11). If you update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything? If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command: sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette . Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't have to create a new bug report. Once the BIOS is updated, then please mark this report Status Confirmed. Thank you for your understanding. ** Tags added: bios-outdated-a11 ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Low ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1405298 Title: [Dell M4800]: iwlwifi regularly loses connection on Intel 7260 Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: My problem seems to be different from #1315221 because it exists in 3.16.0-28-generic (Ubuntu 14.10) About every 10 minutes my WiFi disconnects and a line like this appears in syslog: Dec 23 21:58:36 work kernel: [ 1762.008441] wlan0: deauthenticated from 10:c6:1f:2c:49:56 (Reason: 7=CLASS3_FRAME_FROM_NONASSOC_STA) Workarounds like 11n_disable=1 and `sudo modprobe -r iwlwifi; sudo modprobe iwlwifi` don't seem to help. These appear in many of the newer Samsung laptops, for example. elantech.c in the kernel needs to be updated to support these models (up to v7 perhaps?) This bug is confirmed to affect a range of samsung laptops running Ubuntu 12.04 and newer, ArchLinux, Fedora and also affects the current (3.9) upstream kernel. A dkms package was produced in 2011 (see https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video- intel/+bug/681904/comments/64) which may fix certain older laptops affected by this issue, but doesn't fix newer models. == Original Report == Hello, So far I've been having a problem with my Elantech multitouch trackpad in Linux. Basically all i get is right click, left click, and tap to click, along with basic movement. The problem seems to be rooted in improper detection of the trackpad, likely b/c its a new revision or whatnot. Of note is that working elantech trackpads of the past in forums i scouted through show up as "ETPS/2 Elantech Touchpad". Mine just shows up in xinput as "PS/2 Elantech Touchpad". I think this might be a simple fix in the end, just improper detection, I hope. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1284936] Re: BUG: unable to handle kernel paging request at ffffc900051f5000
I can reproduce this. I first noticed it during a failed boot when I accidentally left an old USB boot drive in the USB port. Later I was running some Phoronix stress tests, which crash and show the same error in the crash report details being sent to [who?]. Anyway, it crashes on the following test: 124: TTSIOD 3D Renderer - Processor First I noticed it when running the processor test suite. But then I could run this test alone and still recreate it. It happens about 60-90 seconds into the test. The test itself just hangs at that point. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1284936 Title: BUG: unable to handle kernel paging request at c900051f5000 Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: Desktop was unresponsive on startup. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1405278] [NEW] Suspend problem when running LiveUSB from USB 3.0 port (but not 2.0 port)
Public bug reported: When running Ubuntu 14.04/14.10 from LiveUSB, the system would crash after suspend (either by closing the lid or forcing the system to suspend), when the USB stick was inserted into USB 3.0 port. This problem was experienced with both USB 2.0 and 3.0 stick. No problem was observed when the Ubuntu LiveUSB stick (either USB 2.0 or 3.0) was inserted into a USB 2.0 port. (I.e., the Ubuntu system would wake up normally after suspend when USB 2.0 port was used). When I installed 14.04/14.10 into a USB stick (3.0), Ubuntu would wake up normally from suspend (i.e. no problem with the USB 3.0 port with an installed USB stick). It thus appears that this is not a BIOS problem. The suspend (or more specifically, wake-up) problem only occurred when booting from a LiveUSB stick (USB 2.0/3.0) in a USB 3.0 slot. Update: With Ubuntu 15.04, I was able to wake up the LiveUSB when it was on USB 2.0 stick in a USB 3.0 port, but not on USB 3.0 stick. ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1405278 Title: Suspend problem when running LiveUSB from USB 3.0 port (but not 2.0 port) Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: When running Ubuntu 14.04/14.10 from LiveUSB, the system would crash after suspend (either by closing the lid or forcing the system to suspend), when the USB stick was inserted into USB 3.0 port. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1315369] Re: Log in not available after lock screen with multi-monitor
I had this problem when I came back from lunch today. I am running a desktop with two DisplayPort monitors. I was able to move the cursor from monitor to monitor but no prompt appeared to allow me to enter my password. I had to go into a text console to reboot. I had a VM running which got aborted so this is very annoying. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1315369 Title: Log in not available after lock screen with multi-monitor Status in Unity: Invalid Status in X.org xf86-video-intel: Invalid Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in unity package in Ubuntu: Invalid Status in linux source package in Trusty: Confirmed Status in unity source package in Trusty: Confirmed Bug description: After the screen locks I am unable to log back in because the screen with the login prompt is black, and the screen on my laptop just shows the Ubuntu logo. Furthermore, if I then unplug the external monitor (in an attempt to force the log in option to be displayed on the laptop) the laptop screen then goes black and I can't do anything at all. I can't reproduce this if I select "lock screen" from the UI, but it happens reliably if it locks due to inactivity. Other info: - I am running a fresh install of 14.04 - I have it set to lock after 5 min of inactivity, and require login after lock - I have an external monitor, configured to be on the left side of the laptop screen --- ApportVersion: 2.14.1-0ubuntu3 Architecture: i386 AudioDevicesInUse: USERPID ACCESS COMMAND /dev/snd/controlC1: jane 2184 F pulseaudio /dev/snd/controlC0: jane 2184 F pulseaudio CompizPlugins: [core, composite, opengl, compiztoolbox, decor, vpswitch, snap, mousepoll, resize, place, move, wall, grid, regex, imgpng, session, gnomecompat, animation, fade, unitymtgrabhandles, workarounds, scale, expo, ezoom, unityshell] CurrentDesktop: Unity DistroRelease: Ubuntu 14.04 HibernationDevice: RESUME=UUID=61f52096-031e-4e3d-b1ae-e504b3b3edec InstallationDate: Installed on 2014-05-01 (20 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 14.04 LTS "Trusty Tahr" - Release i386 (20140417) MachineType: Dell Inc. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1397032] Re: [Lenovo ThinkPad T540p] Intel Wireless Dual Band 7260AC fails to connect
ok, I understand. I'll use the wifi for a period of time with kernel 3.18.1 and 3.13. Since there are going to be holidays (and I'll not be in the office) I'll get back to you in the new year. Thank you -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1397032 Title: [Lenovo ThinkPad T540p] Intel Wireless Dual Band 7260AC fails to connect Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: I have a Lenovo Thinkpad T540p and the wireless connection isn't working correctly. It will list the available networks but when trying to connect it will keep asking for the password or when it connects the connection will last only few seconds and the packet loss on a ping will be very high. I've followed bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-firmware/+bug/1354975 in order to find a solution but without luck. I've tried to turn off power management, install latest kernel ( linux-image-3.17.0-031700-generic ) and related updated firmware according to http://wireless.kernel.org/en/users/Drivers/iwlwifi . Tried also the updated firmware for the older kernel and with the older kernel. I've tried also Ubuntu 14.10 with same results. I've tried to move closer to the router but with no change at all.
