As far as I followed upstream, work is being done on this matter in the
Linux kernel, not really in Ubuntu. (Since it is not a packaging bug,
but rather a development task)
Current focus seems to be to make sure audio works in HDA mode. I2S mode
is apparently improved in kernel versions 4.0 and 4.
I found a solution:
1. Install "alsa-tools-gui" package.
2. Run hdajackretask.
3. Check ☑ Show unconnected pins.
4. At pin 0x18, check ☑ Override and select Microphone from the list.
5. Click "Apply now" to test if it works.
6. Click "Install boot override" to make it definitive.

nothing changed, still WIFI card is not getting detected.

Holy Moly! It gives me real pleasure to realize living in some kind of
forbidden world, like outside of North America. Channels 12 and 13 of
WIFI 2.4GHz are valid channels for the whole world, perhaps with the
exception of North America. There is no need to block these channels!

I used mkusb following this page https://help.ubuntu.com/community/mkusb
and (without pre-treating the vivid-desktop-amd64.iso with isohybrid)
attempted another stick creation. And presto, it works!
Tried booting on both my laptops, the present new DELL XPS13 and an old
thinkpad T60, and it boote

Some new elements: the bug seems to be linked with a KDE or X.org
element. I tried the following:
Boot and login to the console => no bug (I can un/re-plug as much as I want)
Login to an X session => bug
Reboot
Login to an X session ; logout without trying to unplug.
Login to the console => no bug
Eric Carlier, then it would appear the issue is due to a downstream only
issue. Hence, let this be marked Triaged for now, and we may circle back
on further testing as this report develops.

Before trying to reverse commit bisect, I tried to boot on
3.13.11-ckt19. The problem is *not* present with this kernel. Only with
