[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1545357] Re: Canon MX870 queued not printing in Ubuntu 14.04 after 3.13.0-68-generic

2016-02-14 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Famous Man, in order to allow additional upstream developers to examine the
issue, at your earliest convenience, could you please test the latest upstream
kernel available from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/?C=N;O=D ?
Please keep in mind the following:
1) The one to test is at the very top line at the top of the page (not the
daily folder).
2) The release names are irrelevant.
3) The folder time stamps aren't indicative of when the kernel actually was
released upstream.
4) Install instructions are available at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds .

If testing on your main install would be inconvenient, one may:
1) Install Ubuntu to a different partition and then test this there.
2) Backup, or clone the primary install.

If the latest kernel did not allow you to test to the issue (ex. you couldn't
boot into the OS) please make a comment in your report about this, and continue
to test the next most recent kernel version until you can test to the issue.
Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version
specifically you tested. If this issue is fixed in the mainline kernel, please
add the following tags by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil
icon, next to the word Tags, located at the bottom of the report description:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-X.Y-rcZ

Where X, and Y are the first two numbers of the kernel version, and Z is
the release candidate number if it exists.

If the mainline kernel does not fix the issue, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-X.Y-rcZ

Please note, an error to install the kernel does not fit the criteria of
kernel-bug-exists-upstream.

Once testing of the latest upstream kernel is complete, please mark this
report's Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1545357] Re: Canon MX870 queued not printing in Ubuntu 14.04 after 3.13.0-68-generic

2016-02-14 Thread Famous Man
I should also add that printing was ok in 3.13.0-61 ,63, 65 stopped in
3.13.0-66, was ok in 3.13.0-68, and stopped in 3.13.0-71 and all others
after that including 3.13.0-77.

It woud seem that what ever bug was introduced in 3.13.0-66 and fixed in
3.13.0-68 and then regressed in 3.13.0-71 needs to be fixed ?

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1542716] Re: tuchpad never working after 14.04 installation

2016-02-14 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
mauribera, in order to allow additional upstream developers to examine the
issue, at your earliest convenience, could you please test the latest upstream
kernel available from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/?C=N;O=D ?

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1437492] Re: boot stalls on USB detection errors

2016-02-14 Thread Awesome Donkey
I've found it still happens on 4.2.0-27.

However, I've been having better luck with the 4.5-rc kernels.

  Xenial/4.4 kernel does not honor biosdevname=0

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  I installed the Xenial daily testing image dated 2-13-2016
  (ttp://cdimage.ubuntu.com/lubuntu/daily-live/20160213/xenial-

  I'm booting the kernel with the following:

  ipv6.disable=1 biosdevname=0 longhaul.enable=0 audit=0 quiet
  splash

  However, eth0 is being named enp3s0:

  $ dmesg | egrep 'r8169|net|eth'

Title:
  Xenial/4.4 kernel does not honor biosdevname=0

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  I installed the Xenial daily testing image dated 2-13-2016
  (ttp://cdimage.ubuntu.com/lubuntu/daily-live/20160213/xenial-
  desktop-i386.iso).

  I'm booting the kernel with the following:

  ipv6.disable=1 biosdevname=0 longhaul.enable=0 audit=0 quiet
  splash

  However, eth0 is being named enp3s0:

  $ dmesg | egrep 'r8169|net|eth'
  [0.017363] Initializing cgroup subsys net_cls
  [0.017377] Initializing cgroup subsys net_prio
  [3.150713] r8169 Gigabit Ethernet driver 2.3LK-NAPI loaded
  [3.150735] r8169 :03:00.0: can't disable ASPM; OS doesn't have
ASPM control
  [3.150765] r8169 :03:00.0: PCI: Disallowing DAC for device
  [3.151266] r8169 :03:00.0 eth0: RTL8102e at 0xf844a000,

  [3.263623] r8169 :03:00.0 enp3s0: renamed from eth0
  [   15.729303] r8169 :03:00.0 enp3s0: link down

  [   17.381617] r8169 :03:00.0 enp3s0: link up

  And:

  $ cat /etc/network/interfaces
  # interfaces(5) file used by ifup(8) and ifdown(8)
  auto lo
  iface lo inet loopback

  auto eth0
  iface eth0 inet dhcp

  And:

  $ ls -Al /etc/udev/rules.d/
  total 0

  The thing that looks most different (to me) is systemd.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1545441] [NEW] Xenial/4.4 kernel does not honor biosdevname=0

2016-02-14 Thread Jeffrey Walton
Public bug reported:

I installed the Xenial daily testing image dated 2-13-2016
(ttp://cdimage.ubuntu.com/lubuntu/daily-live/20160213/xenial-
desktop-i386.iso).

I'm booting the kernel with the following:

ipv6.disable=1 biosdevname=0 longhaul.enable=0 audit=0 quiet splash

However, eth0 is being named enp3s0:

$ dmesg | egrep 'r8169|net|eth'
[0.017363] Initializing cgroup subsys net_cls
[0.017377] Initializing cgroup subsys net_prio
[3.150713] r8169 Gigabit Ethernet driver 2.3LK-NAPI loaded
[3.150735] r8169 :03:00.0: can't disable ASPM; OS doesn't have ASPM
control
[3.150765] r8169 :03:00.0: PCI: Disallowing DAC for device
[3.151266] r8169 :03:00.0 eth0: RTL8102e at 0xf844a000,
00:e0:4c:52:ca:07, XID 04e0 IRQ 26
[3.263623] r8169 :03:00.0 enp3s0: renamed from eth0
[   15.729303] r8169 :03:00.0 enp3s0: link down
[   15.729327] r8169 :03:00.0 enp3s0: link down
[   17.381617] r8169 :03:00.0 enp3s0: link up

And:

$ cat /etc/network/interfaces
# interfaces(5) file used by ifup(8) and ifdown(8)
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

auto eth0
iface eth0 inet dhcp

And:

$ ls -Al /etc/udev/rules.d/
total 0

The thing that looks most different (to me) is systemd.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1542934] Re: [drm:intel_cpu_fifo_underrun_irq_handler [i915]] *ERROR* CPU pipe A FIFO underrun

2016-02-14 Thread Londé Ngosso
System information:
Linux portable-londe 3.19.0-49-generic #55~14.04.1-Ubuntu SMP Fri Jan 22
11:24:31 UTC 2016 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
Dell Inc. Inspiron 5558 with Ubuntu 14.04.3 LTS 64 bits - 8GB RAM - Bios A09 -
Intel® Core™ i5-5200U CPU @ 2.20GHz × 4 - Intel® HD Graphics 5500

i got errors in the logs since the beginning:
dmesg|grep ERROR
[0.183435] acpi PNP0A08:00: _OSC failed (AE_ERROR); disabling ASPM
[   10.514448] [drm:gen8_irq_handler [i915_bpo]] *ERROR* The master control
interrupt lied (SDE)!
[   10.514592] [drm:gen8_irq_handler [i915_bpo]] *ERROR* The master control
interrupt lied (SDE)!
[...]

Then i connected the hdmi cable to the tv. The video on firefox or chrome
stopped when i switch the sound to hdmi and Rhythmbox just stopped playing
music.
When i switched the sound output to internal boxes, every media started again.

The errors above still occurs in the log dmesg.

So i can say that the kernel 3.19 does not work with hdmi on my laptop.

see dmesg in attachment.

will test kernel 4.2

Title:
  Xenial/4.4 kernel does not honor biosdevname=0

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  I installed the Xenial daily testing image dated 2-13-2016
  (ttp://cdimage.ubuntu.com/lubuntu/daily-live/20160213/xenial-
  desktop-i386.iso).

  I'm booting the kernel with the following:

  ipv6.disable=1 biosdevname=0 longhaul.enable=0 audit=0 quiet
  splash

  However, eth0 is being named enp3s0:

  $ dmesg | egrep 'r8169|net|eth'
  [0.017363] Initializing cgroup subsys net_cls
  [0.017377] Initializing cgroup subsys net_prio
  [3.150713] r8169 Gigabit Ethernet driver 2.3LK-NAPI loaded
  [3.150735] r8169 :03:00.0: can't disable ASPM; OS doesn't have
ASPM control
  [3.150765] r8169 :03:00.0: PCI: Disallowing DAC for device
  [3.151266] r8169 :03:00.0 eth0: RTL8102e at 0xf844a000,

  [3.263623] r8169 :03:00.0 enp3s0: renamed from eth0

  [   17.381617] r8169 :03:00.0 enp3s0: link up

  And:

  $ cat /etc/network/interfaces
  # interfaces(5) file used by ifup(8) and ifdown(8)
  auto lo
  iface lo inet loopback

  auto eth0
  iface eth0 inet dhcp

  And:

  $ ls -Al /etc/udev/rules.d/

Title:
  Xenial/4.4 kernel does not honor biosdevname=0

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  I installed the Xenial daily testing image dated 2-13-2016
  (ttp://cdimage.ubuntu.com/lubuntu/daily-live/20160213/xenial-
  desktop-i386.iso).

  I'm booting the kernel with the following:

  ipv6.disable=1 biosdevname=0 longhaul.enable=0 audit=0 quiet
  splash

  However, eth0 is being named enp3s0:

  $ dmesg | egrep 'r8169|net|eth'
  [0.017363] Initializing cgroup subsys net_cls
  [0.017377] Initializing cgroup subsys net_prio
  [3.150713] r8169 Gigabit Ethernet driver 2.3LK-NAPI loaded

  [3.263623] r8169 :03:00.0 enp3s0: renamed from eth0

  [   15.729327] r8169 :03:00.0 enp3s0: link down
  [   17.381617] r8169 :03:00.0 enp3s0: link up

  And:

  $ cat /etc/network/interfaces
  # interfaces(5) file used by ifup(8) and ifdown(8)
  auto lo
  iface lo inet loopback

  auto eth0
  iface eth0 inet dhcp

  And:

  $ ls -Al /etc/udev/rules.d/
  total 0

  The thing that looks most different (to me) is systemd.

  For more information on biosdevname, see "Consistent Network Device
  Naming in Linux,"

http://linux.dell.com/files/whitepapers/consistent_network_device_naming_in_linux.pdf.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1542934] Re: [drm:intel_cpu_fifo_underrun_irq_handler [i915]] *ERROR* CPU pipe A FIFO underrun

2016-02-14 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Londé Ngosso, to advise, you don't need to keep re-posting the same
system information, log attachments, error messages, etc. unless
specifically requested to do so.

Despite this, to clarify, the scope of this report is only if the
functionality of hdmi is working (not innocuous error messages in logs).

Hence, to see if the hdmi issue is already resolved in Ubuntu, could you
please test http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ and advise to
the results?

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1520355] Re: Kernel/Debugging/Backlight/Ubuntu Gnome 15.10

2016-02-14 Thread Anatoly
sudo nautilus /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight
then edit the file "brightness"
Of the ways described here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/Debugging/Backlight
it only works: echo 8 > /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness
