*** Bug 93824 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1041790 Title: [snb] GPU lockup IPEHR: 0x0b160001 IPEHR: 0x0b140001, workaround i915.semaphores=0 Status in xf86-video-intel: In Progress Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Status in sandybridge-meta package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in xserver-xorg-video-intel package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: X locks up periodically for a 2 to ten seconds at a time and this crash log gets generated. It's significantly more than several times a day but not quite continuous. If you indeed have this bug, that should stop the lockups from happening. Irrespective, please file a new bug report so your hardware may be tracked. WORKAROUND: Edit your /etc/default/grub from: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash" to: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash i915.semaphores=0" run the following and reboot: sudo update-grub The side effects of this is rendering throughput is dropped by 10% with SNA, or as much as 3x with UXA. OpenGL performance is likely to be reduced by about 30%. More CPU time is spent waiting for the GPU with rc6 disabled, so increased power consumption. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1540511] [PATCH] [xenial] (upstream) HID: multitouch: fix input mode switching on some Elan panels
From: Benjamin Tissoiresas reported by https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=108481 This bug reports mentions 6d4f5440 ("HID: multitouch: Fetch feature reports on demand for Win8 devices") as the origin of the problem but this commit actually masked 2 firmware bugs that are annihilating each other: The report descriptor declares two features in reports 3 and 5: 0x05, 0x0d,// Usage Page (Digitizers) 318 0x09, 0x0e,// Usage (Device Configuration)320 0xa1, 0x01,// Collection (Application)322 0x85, 0x03,// Report ID (3) 324 0x09, 0x22,// Usage (Finger) 326 0xa1, 0x00,// Collection (Physical) 328 0x09, 0x52,// Usage (Inputmode) 330 0x15, 0x00,// Logical Minimum (0) 332 0x25, 0x0a,// Logical Maximum (10) 334 0x75, 0x08,// Report Size (8) 336 0x95, 0x02,// Report Count (2) 338 0xb1, 0x02,// Feature (Data,Var,Abs)340 0xc0, // End Collection 342 0x09, 0x22,// Usage (Finger) 343 0xa1, 0x00,// Collection (Physical) 345 0x85, 0x05,// Report ID (5) 347 0x09, 0x57,// Usage (Surface Switch)349 0x09, 0x58,// Usage (Button Switch) 351 0x15, 0x00,// Logical Minimum (0) 353 0x75, 0x01,// Report Size (1) 355 0x95, 0x02,// Report Count (2) 357 0x25, 0x03,// Logical Maximum (3) 359 0xb1, 0x02,// Feature (Data,Var,Abs)361 0x95, 0x0e,// Report Count (14) 363 0xb1, 0x03,// Feature (Cnst,Var,Abs)365 0xc0, // End Collection 367 The report ID 3 presents 2 input mode features, while only the first one is handled by the device. Given that we did not checked if one was previously assigned, we were dealing with the ignored featured and we should never have been able to switch this panel into the multitouch mode. However, the firmware presents an other bugs which allowed 6d4f5440 to counteract the faulty report descriptor. When we request the values of the feature 5, the firmware answers "03 03 00". The fields are correct but the report id is wrong. Before 6d4f5440, we retrieved all the features and injected them in the system. So when we called report 5, we injected in the system the report 3 with the values "03 00". Setting the second input mode to 03 in this report changed it to "03 03" and the touchpad switched to the mt mode. We could have set anything in the second field because the actual value (the first 03 in this report) was given by the query of report ID 5. To sum up: 2 bugs in the firmware were hiding that we were accessing the wrong feature. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1546985] Re: BUG: unable to handle kernel paging request at ffff87ffb88dbf18
Verified again with this system re-installed, this issue still 100% reproducible on 3.2.0-99. Steps: 1. Re-install the system with --proposed. 2. Run the gpu_lockup_after_suspend on it. Result: * For the very beginning, when it crashes on the gpu_lockup_after_suspend job, it will reboot itself automatically. And I finally see this error message: Unable to handle kernel paging request. When this happens * Caps Lock LED was not blinking. * the system seems frozen, it does not react to NumLock / CapsLock / VT switching and ssh connection. * system can still take the magic key to reboot (Ctrl + Alt + PrtScn + b) (I think the kernel is still alive, so the error can be logged) ** Attachment added: "paging-request-2016-Feb-19.jpg" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1546985/+attachment/4575367/+files/IMG_20160218_171801.jpg -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1546985 Title: BUG: unable to handle kernel paging request at 87ffb88dbf18 Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in linux source package in Precise: New Bug description: CID: 201011-6701 Potential kernel regression found on this system while testing with 3.2.0-99-generic #139 It will hang after the suspend/gpu_lockup_after_suspend test case Step: 1. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1520627] Re: New personality for more accurate armv7l emulation on arm64
In xenial this was released in: Ubuntu-4.4.0-3.17. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu Xenial) Status: In Progress => Fix Released -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1520627 Title: New personality for more accurate armv7l emulation on arm64 Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in linux source package in Wily: Fix Released Status in linux source package in Xenial: Fix Released Bug description: We're working on bringing up new arm64 builder infrastructure in Launchpad scalingstack to replace the current bare-metal builders, and the current plan is that they should be able to cover armhf as well. Ideally, we would be able to do this using the same guest images: scalingstack builders are reset at the end of the previous build so that latency for new builds is lower when the build farm isn't at 100% use, which means that we don't in general know which architecture a given builder is going to need to build next, so we can get better density out of our hardware by having the same guest images be able to handle more than one architecture. Things mostly work just by chrooting into an armhf chroot under linux32. However, this causes "uname -m" to print "armv8l", while our current value on our armhf builders is "armv7l". I'd initially thought that this would be tolerable, but my understanding from Adam Conrad is that the breakage from poorly-written build scripts that misdetect the architecture as a result is quite widespread. So, we would like to have a personality value available that would cause "uname -m" to print "armv7l". This doesn't look completely trivial, because newuname() basically just has compat and non-compat mode for architectures based on whether the personality is PER_LINUX32 or not, and doesn't currently seem to have extension points beyond that. I'm hoping this is fixable. If not, we need to know with as much lead time as possible so that we can bring up separate armhf guests, since that's going to be a fair amount of work for us to arrange.
