Status in pulseaudio source package in Vivid:

Bug description:
Just installed 15.04 fresh from the latest ISO (beta2).

I'm bummed to see my bluetooth headset (Bose Soundlink overear) seems
  to have regressed in functionality.

In 14.10, I was able to set the output profile either to a2dp or
  hsp/hfp (telephony duplex).

In 15.04, it only works in telephony duplex mode. I can't get high
fidelity sound playback to work at all.

This thread seems to be related, though the workaround within did not solve
the problem for me:

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1574125] Re: [Lenovo G50-70] suspend not working after upgrade

2016-08-21 Thread Cristiano Gavião
This issue is driven me crazy... every time my notebook Dell 15R 5537
suspend I have to power it off... even if with 4.4.0-36-generic

Please could some developer tell me if a fix will be release or if do I
really need to install 4.6 kernel?

[Lenovo G50-70] suspend not working after upgrade

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Hi,

Upgraded from Ubuntu 15.10 where suspend workes flawlessly. After
upgrade, putting machine in suspend turns the monitor black and
everything seem to be off, though the fan still spins, the power light
is on and the battery is trained. Nothing seem to wake it up (Meaning
different key combinations - trying to get a shell by Ctrl+Alt+F1, for
example; pressing power, any other key).

Unsure how to try to get it working since I have to kill the power by
pressing down the power button, then restarting it (it then does a
  drive scan for errors).

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1611283] Re: entering crypto passphrase while notebook is mounted to docking station results in sleep state

2016-08-21 Thread Hauke Bruno
Thanks Paul, I don't know where that xorg tag came from.

I finally installed the latest 4.8rc1 and rc2 kernels and will be able
to update this bug tomorrow. Unfortunately I can't create the missing
logs via apport-collect, due to some missing python qt module.

Title:
entering crypto passphrase while notebook is mounted to docking
  station results in sleep state

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
After upgrading to the current kernel (4.4.0-34-generic) I am not able
to log in to my Kubuntu 16.04 at a Lenovo T430 while it is mounted to
  a docking station.

Ubuntu boots until I need to enter the passphrase for my crypted disk,
but anyhow the system then enters a sleep state (small moon icon is
blinking). Inside the docking station I am not able to leave that
  state.

Outside the docking station the problem doesn't occur.

While using the 4.4.0-31-generic kernel, everything works fine.

I am not sure how to debug that behavior, so if some more information
is needed please leave me a note.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1531865] Re: 4.2 (linux-generic-lts-wily) kernel hangs on Bay Trail based Asus X553MA

2016-08-21 Thread Vincent Gerris
It's not really solved, it's a workaround that makes the machine use more power.
Let's hope that anyone can get intel to fix this?
I am trying to contact people at intel and Canonical to pick this up.
Let's hope someone will act.

Title:
4.2 (linux-generic-lts-wily) kernel hangs on Bay Trail based Asus
  X553MA

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged
Status in linux package in Debian:
  New

Bug description:
  Kernels since 4.2-rc1 contain:

  [8fb55197e64d5988ec57b54e973daeea72c3f2ff] drm/i915: Agressive
  downclocking on Baytrail

which causes hangs on my Bay Trail based Asus X553MA and likely on other Bay
Trail based machines
as well. The hangs occur between minutes and hours after booting and there is
no information found
related to them in kernel message buffer.

I found the above commit by doing bisection between 4.1.0 and 4.2-rc1 and
reported it to intel-gfx
  mailing list:

  http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/intel-
  gfx/2016-January/084203.html

I tested that these hangs occur with 14.04 LTS using latest
linux-generic-lts-wily (4.2.0-23-generic) kernel
exactly as with any kernel beginning from 4.2-rc1 up to 4.4-rc8.

I'm now writing this bug report running 4.4-rc8 with patches from the above
commit removed because
4.2.0-23-generic just hanged while I was trying to send report.

Fan on full speed without noapic or nolapic on HP 6715s

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Without adding noapic or nolapic to boot parameters the fan will run
on full speed, the system is sluggish (can almost see windows
redrawing on screen). On some kernel versions tested, rebooting also
  fails.

The parameter(s) were not required in Trusty. I also tested some
Mainline kernels and discovered 3.19.8 and 4.0.9 works without the
parameters. At least 4.1.29 and onward requires noapic or nolapic for
this machine to work properly but I have yet to investigate the
  versions between 4.0.9 and 4.1.29.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1503731] Re: 8086:0f31 Ubuntu 15.04-15.10 freezes totally

2016-08-21 Thread Vincent Gerris
Hi Christopher,

Why did you ask to file a new bug to be made regarding to kernel?
I have reported a similar bug and it seems that at least one of the issues is
quite throughly pinned down to that one that can be worked around with the
cstate=1 or 2 for some others. Bay Trail and some successor platforms are
affected.
Wouldn't we prefer to keep things centralised?
Does Canonical have any contacts with intel to spearpoint this horrible bug?
I have seen thousands of users complaining and those are just the ones that do
report.
So this is very likely to be related to:
https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=109051

The bisect of the kernel commit might to be :
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=88012#c23

Somebody at least pitched it to intel and I replied:
https://communities.intel.com/thread/60984

Please do not ask many people to bisect kernels if it might already be
done, it's very daunting and there is no point for the people affected
by the bug, right?

Current work arounds are running a pre-3.17 kernel and use cstate=1 (this works
for my Yoga 2 11 but affects battery life quite a lot):
http://askubuntu.com/questions/749349/how-to-set-intel-idle-max-cstate-1
or for some cstate=2.

For anyone looking for more workarounds, checkout the
bugzilla.kernel.org bug, there are some more options.

And PLEASE, ANYONE having contacts with intel, alert them!
I am not sure if they are aware of this issue and I can't imagine they are not,
but it would certainly help to try and put the pressure up.

Thanks, hope this helps.

Title:
  8086:0f31 Ubuntu 15.04-15.10 freezes totally

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
Ever since I first installed 15.04 back in April/May on my new DELL
  Inspiron 3646 I have experienced frequent(daily/every-other-
  day)complete lockups(cannot even switch to console(Alt-F1,F2,etc.).

I have determined that the issue is related to the 'i915' driver in
  relation to my GPU.

  I'm currently using intel-linux-graphics-
  installer_1.2.0-0intel1_amd64.deb from https://01.org/linuxgraphics
with similar results (maybe a little better than the stock i915 stack
  in 15.04).

  WORKAROUND: Use kernel boot parameter:
  intel_idle.max_cstate=1

I have gained _significant_ improvements in reliability / stability by
using parameters in the i915 module:

  /etc/modprobe.d/i915.conf:
  options i915 semaphores=1

  and / or

  /etc/default/grub:
  GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet intel_pstate=disable"

  and / or
  /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf:

  Section "Device"
     Identifier "Intel Graphics"
     Driver "intel"
     Option "TearFree" "1"
  EndSection

  and / or
Disable "Intel Virtualization Technologies" in the BIOS.

Bug description:

IMPORTANT: eCryptfs can only store filenames of up to 143 characters when
filename encryption is enabled. The remaining 112 characters are used for
storing metadata such as the encrypted filename prefix, the signature of the
filename encryption key, and an identifier for the cipher used, as well as
random bytes to make /foo/file and /bar/file encrypt to different ciphertext
and padding bytes to achieve proper cipher block size alignment.

This bug is considered 'fixed' by the upstream maintainers. The
eCryptfs kernel error message has been reduced to a debug level log
message and eCryptfs now correctly reports its maximum supported
filename length through the statfs() syscall. This is all that can be
done without implementing a completely new encrypted filename design.
A design that allows 255 character filenames without introducing other
design limitations has not been identified and no one is currently
working to come up with such a design.

Please do not add comments or create new bugs saying that mv reports
'File name too long' or that you can't create a long filename in your
eCryptfs mounts. It is an unfortunate design limitation that cannot be
  avoided at this time.

Please do create new bugs when an application generates filenames that are
too long to be stored in an eCryptfs mount. The application may be able to use
the statfs() syscall to check the filename length limits of eCryptfs. Note that
this does not include something like a torrent or ftp client trying to download
a file with a long filename. The application is not generating the filename in
those cases, it is just downloading the file that the user told it to download.

When trying to create a new file with a relatively long filename (f. ex.
dfkmqsdgjfmqsldjfmlsqkjlqkdmfsmgjlqlskdqshgpoizehmlqkbgmlqbgmqbdfkmqsdgjfmqsldjfmlsqkjlqkdmfsmgjlqlskdqshgpoizehmlqkbgmlqbgmqbdfkmqsdgjfmqsldjfmlsqkjlqkdmfsmgjlqlskdqshgpoizehmlqkbgmlqbgmqb.txt)
I get an error: file name to long, when in fact the file name is not to long,
but the encrypted name created for this file is to long, so, the file was not
created.

this is no problem when I try to create a file, but when I'm copying a
lot of files to my home folder I get some: filename to long error's
and it's hard to fix (first locate the file, create shorter name, move
  again)

so, maybe you could create a check for to long filenames?

  I'm using ext4 here...

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1566302] Re: Ubuntu 16.04: Suspend freezes the system after upgrade to linux image 4.4.0-16

2016-08-21 Thread Martin Dybdal
Just upgraded to version 4.7.2, but still not solved for me. I'm using
Ubuntu GNOME Remix 16.04 LTS on a Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro. Suspend worked
perfectly on Ubuntu GNOME Remix 14.04 LTS.

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  I'm using ubuntu 16.04 on a XPS 15 9550.

Suspend/resume worked flawlessly with linux image 4.4.0-15, and after
standard upgrade yesterday (5/04/2016) which installed image 4.4.0-16,
the system freezes when attempting a suspend. I get no response from
the system (nor keyboard, nor screen, nor touchpad), but it gets very
hot, so that it must be running something.

Booting with 4.4.0-15 makes the suspend to work perfectly.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1534985] Re: ethernet card can not resume

2016-08-21 Thread Yuan Song
After using 16.04 for several months, I found the same problem can also
happen in 16.04. It just happens much less frequently. Do not see any
pattern when it can happen.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1359689] Re: cryptsetup password prompt not shown

2016-08-21 Thread lightweight
Ok, after a reboot (I set GRUB_GFXPAYLOAD_LINUX=1600x900 in
/etc/default/grub), no change in behaviour. I'm *not* seeing the
characters that some people (in older comments above) report by hitting
up and down arrows (I see no visible change to my display from any
characters). If I type the passphrase on the dark screen (yes, risky I
know!) incorrectly, there's no visible change to the system. I tried a
reboot with the "upstart" version of the boot profile (as opposed to the
default systemd) and I get a text-mode encryption passphrase prompt. It
otherwise starts as expected (pops straight into graphics mode MDM (the
default Mint graphical login manager).

Bug description:
Currently in utopic the following happens when booting an encrypted

Press enter in grub, after a while screen freezes (or turns completely

password prompt. When I press the up key again, I get to the graphical

This is demonstrated in the following screencast:

Maybe this is related to the version of plymouth utopic currently uses, a
similar debian bug report seems to be resolved with a newer version 0.9.0-6,
see https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=752752.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1523178] Re: 1217:8520 [Dell Latitude E7450] O2 Micro, SD/MMC Card Reader doesn't work

2016-08-21 Thread Martin
Bug still affects 16.04.01 with Kernel 4.4.0-34-generic.
That workaround does the trick, though.

Bug description:
Under ubuntu 15.10 I can't use my Sandisk ultra 64GB microSD (with a

It was working fine under vivid with kernel 3.19.

Went through all the kernels from 3.19 to 4.2
(http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/) and found out that until
4.1.8-040108-generic the SD card reader would play fine and only after
I put 4.1.9 and on I started getting the errors.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1359689] Re: cryptsetup password prompt not shown

2016-08-21 Thread lightweight
I believe I'm experiencing the same bug after an in situ upgrade from
Linux Mint 17.3 (based on Ubuntu 14.04) to 18.0 (running 4.4.0 kernel by
default). I find that the boot process changes the graphics mode once
(after selecting the default kernel) but with a black (but lit) screen
(as opposed to the black unlit screen when modes switch), no visible
text or graphics.

Prior to the upgrade I was also running a 4.4.0 kernel (with 17.3), and
had no issues with getting the orange-ish decryption screen prior to the
full boot.

I find that I can enter my passphrase even without seeing a prompt, and
(if typed successfully!) it then proceeds to a graphical login.

Going back to an earlier kernel (4.2.0, still installed) gives me a
text-mode decryption form (not the graphical mode version).

I'm running this on a Thinkpad X1 Carbon (v2) with 1600x900 LCD, Intel
graphics. I've implemented the suggested GRUB tweaks above and will
report if they make any difference at my next reboot.
