After a lot of googling and trying around, I managed to make it work in the sense that i could move cursor here and there, but still it has numbers of problems. Here is the list of problems it still has: 1. The scrolling does not work at all, it never worked. 2. It is dead after each restart and I have to provide this commands to make it work, so that the cursor could move. sudo modprobe -rv psmouse sudo modprobe -v psmouse proto=imps 3. The typing of the keyboard does not work smoothly, which make me really difficult to work. For example: I ended up typing this ''he list Here is the pr to repoty I want thatoblem of t'' when I want to type: 'Here is the list of problems that I want to report' 4. The left and right touch is really hard. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1790801] Re: Ubuntu 18.04 touchppad does not work smoothly in Lenono Thinkpad
Hello, Thanks for your reply. I remember that I did play around with kernal change as my first attempt to fix the touchpad issue, but can not confirm changing to other Kernal intentionally. And the problems with 18.04 persist since day-1. The steps I followed for testing the latest Kernal: 1. uninstall Oracle Virtual Box 2. Download linux-headers-4.19.0-041900rc2-generic_4.19.0-041900rc2.201809022230_amd64.deb from [0] 3. Got error while installing the latest kernal [1] 4. While google around for how to fix the issue, found this page [2], the installation failed as well giving series of error messages [3] If there is a way to fix these problems, I would be really keen to try them. But as you know, that this is affecting my work, so I might wanna try lower version, I did a test with USB installed 16.04, everything worked with that. In my understanding, if I installed that, then also it would keep working fine? The gnome-shell pop-up icon for the keyboard backlight appears for both keys, but the icon's "progress" bar is not visible. Kernel version is linux-image-4.17.0-9-generic This is the same in X and Wayland session. In case it matters, Nvidia binary drivers are installed but Nvidia is switched off via Prime setting in nvidia-settings. Running with Intel drivers The keyboard backlight works perfectly when booting from the 18.04.1 desktop live image. When turning on light with 18.04.1, it is off again after rebooting into 18.10. (However 18.04.1 seems to freeze when shutting down from menu, I have to hard-shut it off). [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1791398] Re: low resolution on my screen [nouveau]
It appears your monitor is not telling the kernel what resolutions it supports. This might be a bug in the monitor's firmware, or it might just be a bad connection. Please try unplugging and replugging the monitor to the machine. Please also try a different VGA cable. Make sure it is plugged in securely. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1787090] Re: [AEP-bug] libnvdimm: Fix a bug that overwrites and corrupts user memory in an ARS_STATUS command
** Information type changed from Private to Public -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1787090 Title: [AEP-bug] libnvdimm: Fix a bug that overwrites and corrupts user memory in an ARS_STATUS command Status in intel: New Status in linux package in Ubuntu: In Progress Bug description: Description: Commit efda1b5d87cb ("acpi, nfit, libnvdimm: fix / harden ars_status output length handling") Introduced additional hardening for ambiguity in the ACPI spec for ars_status output sizing. However, it had a couple of cases mixed up. Where it should have been checking for (and returning) "out_field[1] - 4" it was using "out_field[1] - 8" and vice versa. This caused a four byte discrepancy in the buffer size passed on to the command handler, and in some cases, this caused memory corruption like: ./daxdev-errors.sh: line 76: 24104 Aborted (core dumped) ./daxdev-errors $busdev $region malloc(): memory corruption Program received signal SIGABRT, Aborted. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1791372] Re: Keyboard backlight not working on Asus ZenBook Flip UX561UD laptop in Cosmic 18.10, works with 18.04.1 desktop installer live image
** Description changed: Repro: 1. Press Fn+F3/F4 in fresh install from current Cosmic desktop image, fully updated -> Keyboard backlight should come on or change but doesn't. The gnome- shell pop-up icon for the keyboard backlight appears for both keys, but the icon's "progress" bar is not visible. - Most other Fn+Fx special keys on this laptop work (display brightness, - touchpad off, sound etc.) except for the airplane mode key. However the - airplane mode key only fails in gnome-shell but works on the console - (this is filed as https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome- - shell/+bug/1791367) + Most other important Fn+Fx special keys on this laptop work (display brightness, touchpad off, sound) except for the airplane mode key. However the airplane mode key only fails in gnome-shell but works on the console (this is filed as https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1791367) + (Not working are a key that seems to mean "display off" and another of unclear purpose that never worked on any laptop I ever saw, maybe "presentation mode" as it seems to depict a flip chart or projection screen). [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1690085]
Michael, with all that enabled also try the " idle=nomwait " kernel option If the upgrade to F2 doesn't work. I have a similar BIOS and the same CPU. I had to enable all what you did but this wouldn't work without idle=nomwait. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1690085]
Hi, another Michael here. The typical idle current fixed the trouble, if you have still freeze under low load after it's: a bug in the uefi that doesn't really apply the "typical idle current"(disabling partially core parking). another problem than the one on this thread. I want to add another thing, about fixing it directly from the kernel. As typical idle current seems (i am testing it again for see) not needed under the other OS, that's because the core parking under this other OS is partially disabled by DEFAULT on this OS as i said earlier in this thread. So it seems possible to fix it via the kernel, without make use of an uefi parameters not enabled by default. It could increase the user experience under Linux for people who doesn't know this trouble. So, why don't make simply the same on Linux? IIRC from my reading over hardware.fr article the same apply to Intel cpu. That's a tweak for increasing performance afaik. Ryzen gains ~10%(on games, where latencies are more important) while not having "deep sleep" of cores enabled. My Wattmeter is not a good one but i see mostly no difference between this core parking partially disabled or not. It must save really few power. You all can easily test it by core parking control software on this other OS. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1690085 Title: Ryzen 1800X freeze - rcu_sched detected stalls on CPUs/tasks Status in Linux: Confirmed Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Hi, We aregetting various kernel crash on a pretty new config. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1690085]
Sorry guys, typical Current Idle doesn't fix it for me. I can't believe this is not yet nailed down. I kinda lost believe in the AMD comeback. I do have this issue. My setup is a 2700X on a Gigabyte B450 AORUS PRO. I did hunt this freeze issue down to the behaviour decribed here: System is suddenly stuck during normal office use. Everything stays where is is. No restart, whoops, panic, log entries of any type. Only reset-button helps. I did try to diable Global C-State Control in UEFI - didn't help. After finding this thread today I set Power Supply Idle Control to "Typical Current Idle" and set global C-State back to Auto (since I thought that doesn't help). Sadly, my system froze after 3h. That is with the first and stock UEFI version F1 (AGESA 1.0.0.4). I've just seen that there is an updated UEFI version F2. I've just updated and set global c-states to disabled AND Power Supply Idle Control to "Typical Current Idle". "sudo ./zenstates.py -l" is now: C6 State - Package - Disabled C6 State - Core - Disabled I'll come back with the results. This makes the whole AMD 1xxx and 2xxx seem unstable. Questions: - Why does AMD not care? Is this maybe not NOT a general issue and only affecting a small percentage of users? - If Windows doesn't suffer from that issue - can we find out why and do a "if amd then powersave like windows"? Or is it just the lack of information/support by vendor so that we don't know what exactly the issue is, what is causing it and how to work around it? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1690085 Title: Ryzen 1800X freeze - rcu_sched detected stalls on CPUs/tasks Status in Linux: Confirmed Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Hi, We aregetting various kernel crash on a pretty new config. This change was made by a bot. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: New => Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1791537 Title: 4.15 linux kernel - unable to access the internet Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Budgie was running great until sometime this week, post minimal update - per notification saying i needed to. Ever since then, say September 7th ish, i can not access any internet. Wifi, ethernet, usb wifi, anything. I tried to run the command ubuntu-bug linux as directed, but when I tried to submit was given error, something about unable to translate. Makes sense since I can’t connect to the internet. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1791537] [NEW] 4.15 linux kernel - unable to access the internet
Public bug reported: Budgie was running great until sometime this week, post minimal update - per notification saying i needed to. I then reverted back to the previous linux kernel version and was able to access the internet. The command did show that I am on 4.15 kernel. The problem with > Manjaro is almost certainly a Manjaro problem, not an upstream > problem. I'm not sure what you are talking about, I also checked ubuntu source but there's really no sign of the driver having ever landed farther than the majestic tree by Heiko https://github.com/heikomat/linux/tree/cx2072x (in the Asus-E200HA specific repo in fact, they mention xubuntu 18.04 still require patching and all) The 808622A8 id you reported above is the just the Intel "Smart Sound Technology" device. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1777238] Re: video lag
@Boris You should determine which package/application affected and report it as a new bug. https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs Check the instructions of these paragraphs: - Reporting non-crash hardware and desktop application bugs - Collecting information from a specific package - Collecting information about a program with a window open - Collecting information from a currently running program - Filing a general bug against no particular package - Complete the bug report filing process when you created a bug report, launchpad will inform you what else you have to do, like run this or that command.. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1777238 Title: video lag Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: The problem exists for months and I didn't find a good answer on it. It affects many softwares: Cheese, Super Tux Cart, VLC (when I rewind the video the sounds continues, but the video stops), youtube, Hangouts and every software where video is played. I experienced that there are 2 things that can break it: - if I move the mouse out and in on the affected window (it doesn't work in full screen) - if I open the system monitor, the problem also disappears other people also face with this problem: https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/447696/ubuntu-16-04-18-04-video-playback-lags-stutters https://askubuntu.com/questions/1032035/ubuntu-18-04-budgie-desktop-video-lag-youtube-twitch-in-chrome https://askubuntu.com/questions/1030074/my-video-player-in-ubuntu-18-04-lts-lags/1030194 https://askubuntu.com/questions/1030155/youtube-video-lag-on-18-04 Ubuntu 4.15.0-23.25-generic 4.15.18 it was upgraded from 16.04 ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 18.04 Package: cheese 3.28.0-1ubuntu1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.15.0-23.25-generic 4.15.18 Uname: Linux 4.15.0-23-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.20.9-0ubuntu7.2 Architecture: amd64 CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOME Date: Sat Jun 16 14:34:26 2018 ExecutablePath: /usr/bin/cheese InstallationDate: Installed on 2016-08-04 (680 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS "Xenial Xerus" - Release amd64 (20160719) MachineType: Dell Inc. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1777364] Re: coping files to cifs mounted directory causes general protection fault
I forced version 2.1 and i did NOT reproduce issue. I also forced 3.0 again, and issue occurred again. So, it seems forcing 2.1 may also be workaround. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1777364 Title: coping files to cifs mounted directory causes general protection fault Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: How to reproduce: Copy some large files from local filesystem to CIFS mounted filesystem. After some gigabytes, it syslog will show "general protection fault" and mounted file system will become unresponsive. How often does it occur: Every time, after a few minutes or so. Affected kernels: Bionic 4.15.0-23-generic and forward. I also tried 4.15.18-041518-generic and 4.16.13-041613-generic from ubuntu archives an got similar GPF. 4.13.0-43-generic from ubuntu 17.10 not affected. More information: I have kerberos authenticated, autofs mounted, cifs Mounted with: type cifs (rw,relatime,vers=default,sec=krb5,cache=strict,username=root,uid=1100,forceuid,gid=0,noforcegid,addr=192.168.50.2,file_mode=0755,dir_mode=0755,soft,nounix,serverino,mapposix,rsize=1048576,wsize=1048576,echo_interval=60,actimeo=1) ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 18.04 Package: linux-image-4.15.0-23-generic 4.15.0-23.25 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.15.0-23.25-generic 4.15.18 Uname: Linux 4.15.0-23-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.20.9-0ubuntu7.2 Architecture: amd64 AudioDevicesInUse: USERPID ACCESS COMMAND /dev/snd/controlC0: mbarlow2249 F pulseaudio CurrentDesktop: GNOME Date: Sun Jun 17 23:14:02 2018 DistributionChannelDescriptor: # This is a distribution channel descriptor # For more information see http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DistributionChannelDescriptor canonical-oem-somerville-xenial-amd64-20160624-2 HibernationDevice: RESUME=UUID=25088f17-7123-46c8-bda4-362bcd9f986e InstallationDate: Installed on 2017-11-26 (203 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 16.04 "Xenial" - Build amd64 LIVE Binary 20160624-10:47 Lsusb: Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0003 Linux Foundation 3.0 root hub Bus 001 Device 003: ID 0c45:670c Microdia Bus 001 Device 002: ID 0cf3:e300 Atheros Communications, Inc.
